I've a fairly powerful computer, but game keeps crashing every couple of minutes. It just freezes and then the error log shows to submit.

I play other games that are far more hardware demanding that run just fine.

Any ideas?

I'm having essentially the same problem, although my graphics card is a gtx 660. It also says that my display driver has stopped working then recovered, but the game crashes all the same. This didn't happen during the last EA patch, only since release. I've tried using an older driver version and everything in the technical problem FAQ with no luck.

I've been having Issues also, I get to play 30 mins max then the game freezes for 10 seconds and the game crashes. I had no issues yesterday so I'm not sure what gives.

I have been having the same CTD with error: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

I also had this crash in EA, but have it currently as well. And I have had it happen to me in Game Master mode.

It keeps crashing for me as well. At first it crashed during character creation. I updated my graphics driver, after that it worked for a while, but now it started crashing again. I can only play like 2-3 minutes before the screen goes black. I get the message that the display driver stopped working then recovered. A fix would be welcome, because the game itself is great.

I still haven't found a way to fix it, but reading similar posts (on steam and such) some people have problems with this crash happening in specific places in the game. Fort joy kitchens seems to be the most problematic one so far. Though I noticed that my crashes happen more frequently in specific places it does happen seemingly randomly as well. Sometimes I can play for 20-30 minutes before a crash and other times it happens within 2 minutes. I have also tried messing around with graphics settings like lowering resolution/quality and capping fps and it doesn't seem to change anything.

I managed to fix this problem by switching out video cards; same model but different manufacturer. So I went from an ASUS gtx 660 to an EVGA gtx 660 I had lying around. After installing the drivers for the new card everything worked fine and I was able to play for 4 hours without any crashes. However, the first card doesn't actually seem faulty as it works completely fine with any other game. So I think this may be a driver issue; I didn't know that cards that are the same model but different manufacturers have unique drivers. If you have an extra card, I would suggest switching it out and trying that or maybe roll back drivers to an older version (although that didn't work for me with the first card).

This is more a work around than a fix and not everyone is gonna have an extra card to use but until a concrete fix is implemented for these crashes we're having it might be an option for some.

Don't know if this could help. I've got the same issue when I was playing a mmorpg, and after a patch, the problem was somehow fixed completely. I don't even have to change any setting or hardware of my computer.

I somehow doubt they will fix this problem since it has been a problem since Early Access and it's still prevalent.

I have 2 PCs, both with roughly the same specs (i7 3770 + GTX 970, one 8 GB RAM, the other 16 GB). When I played co-op with my wife, the game was crashing to desktop every 5-30 minutes only on my PC, whereas the other one had no issues whatsoever. I have been experiencing similar crashes in the early access period so I was hoping they would have fixed it by launch. I have tried to determine why one PC crashes and the other doesn't, and came to a conclusion that it must be in OC. Here's what I've done:

- disabled any CPU OC in BIOS. I have a non-K version so my OC was basically turbo enabled on all 4 cores up to 4100 MHz, so I set all the settings back to Auto
- disabled MSI Afterburner along with any GPU OC
- disabled all non-essential software prior to launching the game

The result was that the game crashes once every 5-6 hours of gameplay, sometimes doesn't crash at all during a game session. It's not ideal but completely manageable. It's true that the game has been patched 3 times since launch so it might have helped to some degree too. Anyway, give it a try if you're still struggling with playing and are out of ideas.

Hopefully the fix this soon, seems to be effecting more AMD users.

***SOLUTION***

Disconnect Joystick. (Logitech freedom 2.4 cordless, in my case) I can confirm: No more crashes after this. Check you peripherals!
