AMD card, by any chance?
'Shadow' flickers when you move your avatar or move or zoom your camera?
A few of us have this issue; seems to be only the starting ship area, and some folk have had success either enabling or disabling the Shader Cache in the AMD settings (it's set to auto by default). This didn't help me, but I got babysat through the zone by a friend.
I felt like it was related to the lightning. Didn't happen in the Early Access build.
