I keep stealing unintentionaly because I shift the camera angle all the time and this makes friends think im hella dodgy and greedy af.

Is there or could there be some sort of option to toggle a safety lock system like "Are you sure you want to steal this?" popup.

I totally agree with the OP. Using the controller, its way too easy to accidentally steal something. I cant tell you how many times me and my son have walked up to an NPC and pressed A to talk to them (because the "A - Talk" button is over their head), only to have them move ever so slightly and WHAM, i stole a piece of bread. ugh....

Agree as well. I'm using a controller and its damn hard to talk to a moving npc. I had to reload several times because instead of talking to someone, I accidentally stole something next to him

I dont want to have to lock stealing. There may be times I want to do it. How about we just put it on a different button?

yea, +1 for it !! started yesterday my campaign (noob alert) and got my butt kicked by Griff for unintentional stealing. It hurted.
