After dealing with thugs in the bedroom I went downstairs and confronted Lovrik. He ended up dead, shattered to hundreds frozen pieces when the "conversation" ended. The journal didn't even notice though and when I went into the kitchen and back, it stated that Lovrik had fooled me and fled.
So either he's really cunning, faking his death like that, or the quest resolution is bugged.
