Hey folks,

I could use a bit of help on this as I'm probably missing something obvious. How do I make an item, say, in a market, "owned" so that a player would have to steal it to acquire it? I can't find this option so my rogue characters might get a bit bored smile

Anyone have the easy answer for this?

Thanks all!

I'm going from D:OS 1 knowledge here, I haven't explored the system in 2. So I could be wrong :P

But there were two ways to do this in D:OS 1.

1.
On the sidebar you could assign an owner to an object. This is tedious if you're doing a lot of items.

2.
Item ownership triggers. In the story editor there was a goal file for this, where you define which trigger belongs to which character, and then all the items inside the trigger are assigned as owned by the NPC you specified.

So my suggestion would be to look on the sidebar and see if that option still exists. If it does you can use it. And even if you find it, open up the story editor and do a find for "ItemOwnership" without quotes.

I haven't done this myself yet but this is what I'm going to do when I get around to it. Hopefully that gives you a place to start looking if no one else comes back with a better answer.

Ooof. I appreciate the answer but I was kinda hoping it would be a little tickbox or something laugh

Haha in all seriousness I'll see if I can fiddle around with the sidebar settings and see if anything sticks out.

If anyone knows a super easy way to make it happen, feel free to add their input because I'd love to hear it.

Thanks SniperHF!

Doing it via the sidebar is basically a tickbox: it sets the owner of the item. You cannot have just a tickbox that is on or off, because an owned item without an owner does not really make sense smile

Oh yeah, totally. I was just kidding. I was unable to find the option you are talking about though. I didn't see it at a glance. I probably just missed it, though.

Hey Dorkenmore,

it is called Owner ID and is available in the sidebar when selecting an item. If you open the sandbox level and go to the little market in the middle, you can see how all items near the vendors are assigned to their specific vendor.

For editing multiple items at once:
1. select them all
2. confirm with the "load multiselected objects" button in the sidebar
3. edit the Owner ID field

Sincerely,
Kevin

Oh very cool! I'll check that out.

As a side note, if a player steals one of those items and is caught, does the NPC attitude automatically drop, as well?

Thanks for the response!

The NPC reacting to crime happens after assigning two things:
- The script: CRIME_HumanReactions
- A tag in the Tags property defining the type of reaction: GUARD, CIVILIAN, PALADIN, MAGISTER,...
(These properties are defined in the Crimes stats file. They will be added to the Stats Editor in a future update but are for now only accessible by unpakking the Shared mod.)

Oh ok, sounds good, thanks KVN!

I'll hold off until the update comes then. I appreciate it!
