i just found out something interesting- a penumbra is a partial shadow cast by the earth during a lunar eclipse. an umbra is the whole shadow.

from http://www.hermit.org/Eclipse/why_lunar.html :

The shadow cast by the Earth has two parts:
In the penumbra, the light from the Sun is partly blocked by the Earth, but not completely. An observer standing on the Moon within the Earth's penumbra would see a partial solar eclipse; we see the Moon dimming due to the reduced light, although in practice this is hard to detect with the eye.
In the umbra, the light from the Sun is completely blocked by the Earth. Our lunar observer would see a total solar eclipse; we see the Moon darkened, but glowing a dull red from light scattered by the Earth's atmosphere.

my question, did larian name a certian character after this or is it just coincidence?
did anybody catch that eclipse? totally awesome!

Are you mad because of this?...

@faile: It can be a coincidence, but I'm not sure.
I should ask the story designers.

Well, she was probably just named after the french gothic metal band Penumbra ( http://penumbra.free.fr/ )
For those who didn't understand the "technical" explanation, have a look here: http://www.schorsch.com/kbase/glossary/penumbra.html

This doesn't make sence guys, at least to me.

Then they have to announce all names, locations etc.

Any name has it's history and it is utopia to announce them all.

It started at 4 am here.
And Viper,
It's been on the news, in newspapers, in weatherforcasts,...

It was harder to not know about it, than to know about it.

It started at 4 a.m. and lasted till 6 here - The weather conditions were great and it was somewhat of a special eclipse because it happened while the moon was setting (if that's the right word <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />)

All this I've heard on the radio of course, I was still asleep at 4 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> -- And it was announced yesterday! yes really <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

edit -- Grrr <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/memad.gif" alt="" /> Seth, learn to type slower, will ya! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I'll try.
But my fingers seem to live their own lives.
