Larian Studios Forums Divinity: Original Sin 2 Divinity - Original Sin 2 - Help/Tips/Tricks Problems with "The Bark's Bites" quest

Hello everybody.

So I got this here problem with the quest "The Bark's Bite" (obtainable from that large log in the eastern building of the Sawmill, in the northern part of Reaper's Coast, after activating the Spirit Vision ability).

The tree tells me to go "take revenge on" the dude who chopped him down, who turns out to be the ghost of the former Sawmill Foreman, located south-west of the bridge to the Sawmill. So when I try to talk to the dude, he just laughs at me when I mention the tree being sentient and that's it. I tried to move the corpse, to hurt him, damage the corpse or the gravestone, all to no effect.

Does anybody know how to proceed in this quest?

You need Source vampirism skill.

It's another source skill like Spirit Vision. If you don't have it, find a source master (Im assuming you just did Sahiela stuff), she is one, so she should give you another slot for source. Once you open up the second slot, do the ritual again to get the 2nd skill that lets you kill/absorb spirits". Then in the dialogue choice, it'll give you an option against the guy. (it gives you the option against every spirit, or you can do it directly from the skill).

This is the correct answer, I've done the quest as well and it resolves if you use Source Vampirism on the foremans ghost.

I figured it out myself.

Using the purging ability on his corpse (from the Purging Wand I got back on Joy Island) did the trick.
I am assuming tho that using that the Necromancy ability "raise bloated corpse" might have also done it. Basically anything that makes a corpse blow up.

Yeah, I don't have Source Vampirism, since I am still underleveled for all the quests attached to getting the other Source abilities besides Spirit Vision (this game sure likes throwing lvl 15 enemies at my lvl 12 bumm).
