i kinda just viewed the whole slave joke thing as intentionally leaving it open ended. because if you accept he is like "cool, we can welcome you into my house and reminisce, but in the meantime, my boots need cleaning" and that is where it leaves off but even then i still think the ending could be changed just by changing the ending cutescene that the narrator voices
