I would like to be able to use mods that do not change gameplay (or at least don't change your ability to get achievements, fight battles etc. like this mod that stops pickups from going straight to the hotbar ) while still being able to get achievements. The game Crusader Kings 2 for instance accomplishes this by letting certain folders in its game files be allowed to be modified while still enabling achievements, such as the graphics and localisation folders. An alternative, since that game uses mostly text files, is to just check certain mods and allow them manually.

Also, does that link show up for you? It did for me when I was previewing it, but doesn't now I'm viewing the post.

i gotta second this, cause a lot of Add-On mods are just QoL changes, or minor balance tweaks

i cant really agree on disabling achievements, cause if someone wants to unfairly get them, they can just use cheat engine to get a ridiculous advantage anyways :^/

If you don't use the in-game mod manager, achievements won't be disabled.

So, extract the PAK directly into the Data directory.

Frankly it shouldn't even be limited to "certain mods".

Since the kickstarter it has been claimed that this game would be mod friendly, that alone should be enough reason to allow achievements on a modded game.

If someone really wants to get the achievements easily they already can, there are several ways available, cheat engine being the easiest of them.

Other companies slowly learned that this sort of blocking serves absolutely no purpose (X-Com, The Elder Scrolls series and Binding of Isaac, are a few games that come to mind), it mannages to prevent players that are actually playing the game, but modded, from getting achievements, but does nothing to prevent players who want to get achievements in an easy way (cheating) from getting them.

I expect Larian will learn this too, eventualy.

On a side note, achievements are absolutely worthless, all they provide is bragging rights, there is little to no reason to put any effort into preventing even cheaters from getting them, so that's also something to consider about this (I only use them to mark progression and know what I'm still missing in the game).

The solution provided by the previous posts (some files can be changed while still getting achievements) would already be a lot better than the current situation, but still far from ideal.

If there was an actual way of preventing cheaters from getting it AND only allowing achievements on the hardcore difficulty (no save scumming) I'd think it could be justified to prevent achievements on a modded game, but... We all know that neither of those are actually true.
