@kiya: I also wanted a story and I have no problems with the decisions you took. I also want a STORY and not a game and imho I do participate in the story and not the game although sometimes unavoidable. but I want a story though, that's why I'm building up this 'relationship' with DQueene,...

maybe we have to discuss what things to leave out for better writing in the future. suggestions are welcome

Suggestions? Very good idea - what about every one writing down what a story means for her/him.

The very good thing about this conflict culminating is one thing in my eyes:
Did we ever discuss the story itself? No, not the plot nor the individual chars = the story.
I'll start = I thought this story was about developing one's own char IN interaction with the other members. So every one could have a "colour, depth". And this was the case at the beginning, right? A fairly large group found itself in a strange world, partly with changed appearances and tried to cope with oneself and with the other members, right? It developed beautifully and we were united in the first large quest: Rescuing Lynn, remember? and it was one quest.

Now, please, all of you: I'd like to know what a story is for you. I'm really curious (and hopefully open). Maybe this helps to find out what should be left out or be pursued?
Kiya

Please, all of you, answer - if you want BeeGee back, the best way to convince him is, there is a story and not a game

For the most part i have to agree with Kiya. There is more to a story the fight. I'm building with a relationship with Carrie (in the story), but for that i have to put my past behind me. Call it, for the once who know this, a 'message in a bottle' situation. Eversince my char entered the story, it has grown due to interaction with others. (like the distruction of my sword).

But for me, i always need a goal in the future to write. What i mean is: i need to have something to write to, a mission, a quest,... And i think thats were it goeas wrong sometimes. I very mutch like to read this story, but i have to say that sometimes it goes a bit unrealistic. Like look to the lvl we are and we sometimes accoplish with this lvl . Not that i'm critisizing the writes or the story, i just that we have to keep in mind that we cant do everything anytime. A good story can go on without a fight, just interaction with people can be intertaining and educational for the chars. But i'm not saying there shouldnt be any fights. Just not one fight after the other.

I hope i didnt offend anyone with this. If i did pm me and i'll see if i can change it.

I have to agree with both of the above: there's too much fighting, I also started out with my deva and tried to develop it's character without having 2 much magical abilities, because imho they should be scatered amongst us. I am also tring to build up a 'love' relationship with DQ to give the story more depth and to have a strong weakness in the story.

so imho we should stumble less upon enemies and we should try to have more conversation, tell a story about our past, ga a bit slower with everything. if we camp somewhere, a lot can happen. I mean the camping in the city before the lightning struck was good imho. we should try to pace down, like now for instance, let's stay a while in town, meet some people or discuss what we are gonna do = try to generate a nice quest. We can now also work a bit more on the group relations and indivicual relations, part a bit from one another like for instance: me going on a picnic/walk with DQ or Jolie with willow

Sorry, I just woke up - I won't be able to be out here long this morning, because I have to do my grocery shopping, etc (yuck - all the fun stuff) before going back to work tomorrow.

Since it was my original idea for the story let me tell you what I thought:

The basic storyline was: A group of diehard Divinity fans were invited to visit Larian for a conference and for some reason Lar sent us all, including Lynn, to this new world full of dragons , and wizards and Orcs and Dwarfs, etc.

Are we really here to save a world or are we just here to develop a game for Larian? We don't know, now do we?

We don't completely remember our old life (it would be a real distraction and we'd never be totally dedicated to fighting the Evil here if we thought it was a game - ie we couldn't die - we'd just wake up).

The goal was to find out what was wrong here, get our quests, and save the world. In my mind this requires a lot of character development, fighting battles when appropriate, and listening when another character gives a plot twist. Example: BG has tried and tried to get us to find out why we have a bounty on our heads. He's also tried to get us to go back to the castle and get treasures and things and get us to go after Aloicious. I've tried to introduce Metheeka as a prominant NPC, with a direct link to Lar, again no one has even asked who or what she is.

Character development requires a lot of personal interaction and yes that's not as much fun as a battle ( you know I like both) and yes it might be a little boring. I haven't felt comfortable taking up a half page to talk - but we need to! If it was a RL experience, what would we do?

So now we have several main quests (7 Talismans from 7 Wizards), we have several side quests too (Jolie's wife), which is good. But you guys are still running off across the sea without solving the quest in our own back yard so to speak.

So you can see how far we have come from our original idea? We tend to latch on to an idea, forget everything else and run off in a completely different direction from where we started. What I need to know is what everyone wants to do? To stop it from being chaos we have to have some order.

Is our primary quest to get back to the real world?
To save this world from the 7 Evil Wizards and free it from tyranny?

Or is it to just ramble around in support of one character's development, ignoring the main plot?

Well DQueen, i think you said it all. I'd go for the wizards and save this world. Who knows thats the reason we were brought here and after it we dissapear again. Char development is important here ALSO listening to eachother.

Some side quests can be interesting for the development, even to solve a big one. For now i'll start by the one with my wife (it will be better for me and the group).

I hope the story doesnt come to an end now. That would be a real shame and a dissapointment imo.

Well, I was with DQueene's story all the time - crystals were a method to think up an alternative method to defeat the wizards/develop my char - the original Kiya would have never had an open heart to hear the song without her friendship for Wolfy.

1. Fight/battle = for the fighters in you

2. Scout/theft = maybe stealing the talisman, or scouting to find out the first troll cave in case the fighters don't succeed?

3. look for allies = that was my plot via crystal, 1st bond with one of the orcs - kobolds/demons would've been the 2nd one - via Wolfy maybe the wolves?

So, if the original plan still exists - I'm waiting for the rest of you - how about teaming/splitting up? Char development is easier in smaller teams, progress, too. And to make it clearer, each team could post in an extra colour? We need messengers to coordinate these teams/warn each other(Kilala, Wolfy? Mind read, telepathy, flying etc.) - lets say, if the scout team discovers a holdup for the fighters? (Bounty!) - the ally team needs to contact others, so befriended races are not attacked? The fighters need all support/info they can get to know which weaknesses the enemy has.
BTW, the oldies amongst you know, my char did fight, hm?
Maybe these teams need extra threads to coordinate? Or just via PM? Depends on how large the groups are.
Please, these are only suggestions...

Okay, i am going to say it how i think it is, and i hope no one gets mad at me, but here i am just a person, and no one really knows who i am...
So, first of all, i think that Beegee AND Kiya should come back. I am currently trying to develope my character, but mine won't be a fighter. I think there is room for all types of characters in this story (and i say STORY) Maybe it doesn't always take the path that one writer thinks it should be going, but it does balance. I figured that yes, cheezy as it may be, i fall in love with Jolie,. and vice versa. And, we have a little changling daughter, that we have to save (again...i would not be fighting...) Well, that is where i want to take my character, but that may cahnge. And, it doesn't really fit in with the quests ect, but it adds dinamics to the story. I really think there is room for everyone, Kiya, i thought your posts were beautiful, and your character really added to the story (even if you don't think it did!!!!) There will be some fighting in any story, but there has to be other things too. I don't think anyone should feel they don't belong (or their character doesn't...)
I think you should both reconsider, get Kiya out of the cave, and BeeGee back in the town, or find him along the road...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, sorry if i have offended any one, and i love reading/making this story, and i hope there can be room for everyone...

well i'll guess i will have to give my opinion as well.

i dont agree with some of your opinions about the differences between a story and a game..

i mean, in a GAME you have main quests, side quests and character stats and skills..
Which were all thought of by the ORIGINAL group of writers (which includes me).. But now i hear it was a STORY then, and a GAME now..

so it was a story when we entered the world and inmediatly have to fight orcs (which were dead in 2 posts allready i believe...) and after than go in a cave, fight poisonous rats (next fight after only a couple of meters walking..) and blow up a castle... thats a story? ok

but why is it suddenly a game when ppl start to fall in love?
when people start to make new friends..
When people leave the group for a while, to figure things out for their own, to sthrengthen the individual character (and i do not mean the strenght but the personality..)

I tried to create plot twists.. Like me getting evil for at least a while (remember talking sword?) but it was destroyed, never to return.

I never STARTED a fight as well iirc, but i do enyoy writing along with the others once a battle has started anyway.

well, this is just my view of a game/story.

because, i dont see any increasing in the fighting.. nor i see any decreasing..
but according to you, SOMEWHERE it has become a game, and well, i just wanna know WHERE you think it has become a game then?

i hope i dont offend anyone, i hope all will return and we will live happily ever after

now everyone is leaving, i too am losing my will to write..
i am thinking about maybe staying behind in jolies village for a while..
i cant keep up with you guys anyway..
Its the same as luc's problem earlier.. When you dont have the change to write much anymore.. you get the feeling your character is being ignored.
I havent made any decisions yet.
i hope everyone will come back, including me.

sorry for the long post, but i just wanted to tell this

i will now start to make my new entry in the story..
i wont leave..yet.

I'll go with you on the quest for you wife's killer Jolie. Anybody else in? I probably write something tomorrow as I have a bit of a 'creativity constpation' at the moment.

jvb, come back - you should be with Viper and me!

How does everyone feel about making a few smaller groups in the story? Each taking a quest which will result in finishing the bigger quest of saving the world? That way, we have a smaller group to coordinate our actions with? Although we would still have to coordinate between the groups, I can actually manage that with the 'mirror' if everyone agrees.

I've talked with some of you about this in PM and I've talked to BG too. We might get him to return if Kiya drags him back from the cave with her.

We can coordinate the quests here first and then we can have the 'meeting' in the story.

Let me know what you think of my idea. Also I will probably only get to post once a day during the week normally so whoever has me in their group will have to not mind. I figured jvb, Viper and I becuase of the whole dragon & romance thing would be groupies.

I think right now communication between all of us is the key if we all want this to work (and i think we do. )
I think we should use this forum as much as possible, along with PM.
That way, we can all stick to the main goal????

I hate to limit how many of the characters I can interact with. We have been a group thus far and I think it would be a shame to split us up. Besides when I had my dream/ vision I saw the bad path as us splitting up and getting destroyed. I think as long as we use this thread and PM's better we can stay as a big group...maybe only two groups or something? Just my $.02

Nero did a really good map not that long ago.

I'm willing to go with the majority on what you want to do and I definitely didn't see us separating completely. Besides I intend to be with Jolie and Carrie when they go into the castle - even if we sneak in, in smaller groups.
