strange, i couldn't find this important thread via "PBR" search string. This one's information should be archived somehow. Wiki, Pin...

If I want to import a custom texture, let's say a Terrain texture, do I or should i mess around with the material editor or just import the textures, create a new material and assign the basecolor, normal and physical map?

I downloaded a texture, generated the normal map and created a PM also in photoshop by more or less emulating an existing one from the game (just green channel). imported them in the game and found that under certain atmosphere settings the texture gets completely black. Probably some issue with the PM.

You still can do everything just by working in 2D (photoshop) with the PBR workflow (as i was doing in the past with other games) or is that not recommended. Do I need to setup more in the material editor?

I think we're meant to use the material editor to create our physical maps (you can modify values like roughness and so on inside that editor).

The problem is we can't seem to save our materials created by the material editor - I can't at least. It's a known bug.

I was looking at the material editor aswell. I still don't get it completely. I just copied another Terrain Material and then assigned / replaced the different textures. Roughness information should be still the same one color channel in the PM texture. So why i should mess around with the material editor again. I guess my issue is mostly because i fast generated a normal and a PM map via photoshop.
