Hello

I am writing this because I am at the moment kind of frustrated of my multiplayer experience, and maybe some of you can give hints what I do wrong.

Me and 2 friends started playing this game last Friday. Me playing rogue (for stealing and stuff), friend #1 plays polymorph, friend #2 ranger. fane as NPC and cleric. also we play without teamspeak or discord, so just with ingame chat.
Till the scene where the boy get the party out of fort joy it was all more or less good. Note here, we needed to do the scene twice, because first time I spook with the boy and asked if he want to drive the boat, and while still speaking one of the friends triggered the boat, let me + fane behind. 2. attempt and while I was still there to loot again the boxes, my friends advanced to story of the boy outside on the beach and just got ahead. and thats mostly the case in all important dialogues since then. friend #1 + #2 runs ahead advancing one story part while I either try to follow them and catch up while they are fighting or I try discover new things, and steal stuff from NPCs.

So question #1
Is it my fault that I taking so long because I want to talk to NPCs, stealing (which does sometimes takes time) or other stuff which is not directly linked to a quest?

Equipment distribution is another big fact where I also cant determine, if I am the bad person here or maybe just a more broad communication problem. Lets take stealing here as good example. When I steal I mostly look first for gear what we need (in the sense I look mostly on the stats +1 polymorph f.e.), after that for skill books, and if there is nothing in specially, then I take as much gold or other handy stuff (res scrolls f.e.) as possible. Now like I wrote above, to steal from some NPC it takes some time because I need to distract them with fane especially in big areas like driftwood. maybe there is a faster way to do it, but dunno. Because it takes some time my friends mostly wander of to more exciting stuff. Except from friend #1 which needs a new 2h weap or at best a spear, I get no word to hear what they need.

So question #2
Is it my fault that something like these is the result of this? My and fane's char good equipped, the others less so. the best item of the ranger is a white lvl 12 crossbow frown
Also note, that nobody ever asked me if I could give them gold so that they can buy stuff or that they wearing white lvl 2 pants. There were tons of possibilities which at least blue rarity. At the moment I am at ~7,8k (again after buying a breastplate for 2,5k gold). Besides the equipment we are in a lvl 14 area and on explorer mode.

Conclusion
I know that these topic is kinda unnormal, but I am not the type of person who puts the first blame on others (especially not friends) but look more what I could do better. But on the other hand I cant find anything which I could do better smirk

Also in this particular multiplayer session, I no more care about main story and co. I dont know, why we killed the dude with the big void worm before boarding the ship, why my friend writing as "witch" in chat nor what the main story is about. Such things I'll discover in a seperate soloplay. so would be nice to not spoiler too much here. =)

So thats it, maybe some of you has tipps for change some of the above writting stuff.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: also why dont I see the colors in the text?

New users are restricted as an anti-spammer measure. I've now removed the restriction in question.

For better communication I suggest TeamSpeak, Skype or Discord. Talk about stuff, much easier, than trying to write about it.

If you are the host of the game, you can do a lot of the stealing stuff, while they are offline. You will have full control about their characters and check their equipment for yourself. The good thing is, in Explorer mode Equipment should be hardly an issue.

Also it seems like your group is missing a dedicated trader?

Regarding your partners they are obviously playing for different reasons like you, so they seem to be a wrong match up for 'living the story'. But on the other hand Larian sadly kind of killed the cooperative gameplay with they try to make competativeness gameplay possible as well. There a now more group conversations with NPCs and such stuff, which makes your group feel less like a group and more like 4 people walking in the same direction.

Well we have fane with +4 bartering and also my ranger friend with +5, for trading stuff.

Concerning the offline stuff that could work as a bandaid.

For the difficulty, we started off as Explorer, switched then back to classic because fights got to easy, later we switched back to explorer because of fights to hard. Or hard in the sense that it could be easier if the attack would be more tactically chosen and also with full party. Because most enemies attacking first the ranger due the glass Canon perk. Which leads to a tactical disadvantage when main DD and heal stands as far back as possible. Because they needed to catch up to the fight. At least thats my point of view.

And thx to the mod for enabling colors in OP.

This isn't a run and gun Coop. You need to establish some rules with how you are going to move forward. Right now it is more 3 dudes running around, with sort of some resemblance of wanting to work together only when needed.

Larian could do better when someone else talks to a NPC, really making the players alert with a sound/graphic mid-screen, vs a little bubble in the portraits to the left.

Also it can totally matter who is doing the talking. And just because one origin person talks, doesn't mean another origin won't get something new and useful talking to that same NPC. This is one of teamwork and patience to make this a succesful run. Not many games like this, everyone just needs to buy in and slow down, otherwise it probably isn't going to last through to the credits.

Another shout out for: When in Coop Dialog, I need to see what the other person choose as their question to ask, without having to scroll the NPC chat screen up each and every single time.

2 Traders seems to be kind of a waste of social points, before all if you want to play together.

It's kind of the core issue, that the AI is kind of too smart in many cases and knows to much, therefore makes stuff like glass cannon a pain in the ass for casual gamers.

Keeping the glass cannon sneaked for the beginning of the fight and let him join later could force the enemy to onload on other team members, before the glass cannon joins in.

As for the trader thing, yeah. But on the other hand we never specified who did trader, so it's more of a general issue here. Before yesterday looking at my mates gear I didn't knew what they skilled. Only thing which was kind of clear, that I did sneak and thievery and healing stuff does fane. Also leadership has just my char, and fane does has the reflection thing, don't recall the name currently.

Also not the AI is Glas Canon but my friend #2, the ranger is. The friend #1 who playing polymorph has stench. And mostly starting mid fight my char gets targeted a lot, which is kind of fine.
