Greetings, all!

How does our party size affect the rate at which we gain EXP?

Do dead characters still gain EXP from fights? What about other things?

Assuming we complete all quests and kill everything we find that isn't normally friendly (like townsfolk), what level should we expect to reach by game's end?

Not at all because the amount of exp is fixed. Some quests though will only give exp to one character.

For the last question, I got to 21 by squeezing some exp out of killing some guards and such, but probably 20 typically. The final enemies are lvl 20 so if you get at least 20 your set.

I was 21 for the last fight and hit 22 half way through from the kills. I didn't go about murdering any townsfolk. I know I missed at least a couple of quests so I'd expect being 20-21 for the last fight is normal.

Some spoilers below.

There is a huge amount of exp that you can lose in quests depending on the choices that you make. For example, Persuasion in particular can lead you to lose out on a large amount of exp because failing many of these checks means you usually need to fight a bunch of dudes. I have finished the game three times now. I believe I was 21 at the end of my first run but 22 at the end of my second and third runs. On my second run, I hit 22 with relative ease before the final fight because I did not have Persuasion and had to take the long-winded/combat approach to many quests. On my third run I probably covered the most content but missed out on a bunch of exp because I had a main char with Persuasion and was able to bypass the checks. For example, on the Nameless Isle, if you kill Alexandar and persuade his spirit to give you alignment for each of the gods, you can no longer obtain these by praying at the altars, thereby missing out on a large amount of exp.

Mind you, I also missed out on a bunch of quests because I did not take Pet Pal (had it removed by Hannag in the first run and did not bother with it in my second and third runs because I was playing Lone Wolf).

I got the feeling I skipped or closed more quests unended than solving stuff. There were both long lists of open quests in Driftwood and the Isle.I never killed a civilian. Nevertheless I left the Isle with lvl 19 and got to lvl 20 in Arx before I entered the cathredral or met the doctor or explored the sewers.

In single player, ALL XP is based on your main character. Other characters don't even have XP bars, they just level up when the main character does.

Anyway, I had level 21 at the end. I imagine if I killed everything (ie civilians and guards) the max could not be higher than 23. The exponential increase in XP per level means that killing everything and completing every quest in the first two acts is largely irrelevant to max level compared to killing everything in Arx and the Nameless Isle. 22 seems very doable, 23 is probably pushing it.

Of course, there COULD be an as-yet unknown exploit allowing infinite XP. Those things always tend to slip through somewhere. I don't think there is a hard cap at all. Everything is scaling-based and there's the whole GM mode to consider.

On my first playthrough, I had two characters (Lohse and Beast) who would always level first because of Lohse's story quests only giving exp to her and there is a quest in Act II that gives 6k exp to one person at a time only. So, while most exp is distributed evenly, you can have people at different levels.

This is correct. I have an exp gap of a few K between my two chars and they level up separately. However, I suspect that the Origin characters outside of the party probably level up at the same time as your MC.

In that quest ( if I am not mistaken) you can talk to "her" with the other characters and get a kiss (and xp) for them too
