Does anyone use crafting aside from the few quest that need it? Why did Larian waste so much time and effort on a mechanic that is pretty much useless. I think the game would only get better if it gets completely deleted from the game since it would mean that you had less useless crap in the inventory. Crafting was already useless in the original and they seemed to have added even more recipes that nobody needs.

Crafting is a system in D:OS2 that could take up its own armor or initiative systems sized discussion, but the fact of the matter is that it's largely a hold-over from the original game and it doesn't seem like it was paid much attention.
Without Crafting Skills (or rather, anything to replace the void they left), crafting has fallen into a mess, and little was done to clean up the system to compensate for the changes of the sequel or the clutter and problems of its original implementation.

Although I think it's not overly useful as it is, I'd prefer to see it expanded into something that is genuinely worthwhile rather than just thrown away altogether.

I want to be able to craft magic items with random stats. That would be fun.
Path of Exile does crafting right, in my opinion. Not a fan of fixed-recipe crafting.

There's lots of useful things you can craft: potions, food, lock picks, arrows, scrolls grenades.
Sadly, it doesn't give you many good options for weapons and armour, which is more important. It feels good recipes are more obscure, assuming they exist.
gambling on some rng cc affect is not a deep strategic decision. It's just a sign of gambling addiction.

There's lots of useful things you can craft: potions, food, lock picks, arrows, scrolls grenades. None of which are really needed because there's so much loot. It feels good recipes are more obscure, assuming they exist. They don't exist. You can see all the recipes with my Recipe Unlocker mod.

There's lots of useful things you can craft: potions, food, lock picks, arrows, scrolls grenades. And early game you can craft some stuff to kickstart your wallet, if you're not a pickpocket/steal read items. But yes to all of those, simple to make to. Dinner is an easy make and a good healer/boost, esp. with 5 Star Dinner. Find some bear to add to it and it is an excellent heal.

Crafting is a disappointment, it was fun the last time around, don't understand all those slots for components, are there 5 items recipes?
Aside for a few arrows, some grenades and runes, theres nothing useful to craft, and even that you don't really need given the amount of loot
Unless they add a way to craft magic weapons and armor, there is no point

My entire first playthrough was spent hoarding tons of absolute worthless trash. My inventory was a complete mess (it doesn't help either that it keeps auto defaulting to "show entire party" either, no matter how many times you uncheck the option) and I wasted more time rummaging through my bags to send things that I "might" need later back to the ship, or simply unloading part of the glut onto another member in hopes that something worthwhile for all of that crap would appear before end game.
It never did. Other than health, armor and magic potions, pixie dust and rune crafting materials, almost all of the ingredients are absolute trash and make a cluttered inventory worse for no reason. I also don't understand how they could have made the already poor inventory management even worse in this game, but they somehow did.
I just don't get what happened. EE had such a robust system set in place, and had everything laid out to be carried over. Instead of actually being able to craft wands that have any particular element that I want, I have to resort to save scumming. They also don't even come with a single +int. Armor? Don't make me laugh. I can craft a single, non bonus chest but no helm, gloves, boots or belts where they would greatly be appreciated early game.
If history repeats itself however, I fully expect all of this NYI stuff to be added with the inevitable console release.
