In single player, ALL XP is based on your main character. Other characters don't even have XP bars, they just level up when the main character does. I don't think that this is correct. On my first playthrough, I had two characters (Lohse and Beast) who would always level first because of Lohse's story quests only giving exp to her and there is a quest in Act II that gives 6k exp to one person at a time only. So, while most exp is distributed evenly, you can have people at different levels. This is correct. I have an exp gap of a few K between my two chars and they level up separately. However, I suspect that the Origin characters outside of the party probably level up at the same time as your MC.
