Hi,

I just got the game.

At first I wanted to play an Elf, but they are super ugly. Don't know why they are called Elf, they should be called Dryads or something totally new, but whatever.

So I thought, let's go with an Undead. But before I waste to much time to find out they actually have serious disadvantages (in conversation or the likes) I wanted to ask here. Is there anything I need to know that will be problematic when playing as an Undead character?

Or is the world rather benevolent and approaching to Undead characters?

Thanks!

While your face is covered by headgear, you will be treated as a normal member of your race, with tag-based interactions about being undead. With your headgear off, many normal NPCs will flee, become hostile, and will actively avoid speaking to you.

There is a headgear item you receive early on that allows you to mimic other races, and semi-permanent variants can be crafted.

Combat AI on the other hand will almost always recognize your Undead talent (any creature with LM2 will instantly share this will all enemies) and you will be healbombed constantly throughout the game.

Thanks, that is some good info!

Is it balanced well, or a pain in the arse to deal with?

As long as you adequately gear and build your characters, taking an additional attack or DoT occasionally should not pose a significant issue.

The undead ability to Play Dead works as a functional instant-flee or aggro-shed, which can be quite useful and easily compensates for any combat flaws the undead suffer.

Keep in mind that undead heal with poison and non-'Holy'/hydro aligned healing (so effects like life drain and necromancy skills still restore vitality), but if you are standing in poison it can still be cursed and exploded.

I don't think I've seen an enemy caster use a poison attack on my undead chars so far, but they will readily use healing spells to hurt them even though their faces are covered. Of course, 9 times out of 10 a poison puddle goes boom as soon as you make one for yourself, so I'm not sure undead is worth it, except for the feign death ability.
