Hello everyone, I am experiencing a problem with the Divinity Engine 2 editor. I have spoken with several people about it and no one seems to be having the issue nor do they have a solution so I thought I would come here and ask. Perhaps someone here can provide a solution or point me in the right direction to get things fixed. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.

The problem is, the project settings button in the editor is not working for me, clicking it does nothing. There is a critical error listed in the message log box but that's all it says. You click Project, then Project Settings, "Critical Error" pops up in the message log box but no window pops up like it used to. Everytime you click Project Settings, the critical error message in the message log box ticks up by 1 but no other messages are given.

I can click Publish project and the usual window appears, it just doesn't work for Project Settings. Control + P only opens the preferences in the editor, not the Project Settings, like it says on the button.

This started happening yesterday, the day before that everything was working fine.

Things I have tried in order to resolve the issue:

I tried restarting steam, no change

I tried restarting the computer, no change

I tried uninstalling the Divinity Engine 2 editor and reinstalling it, no change

I tried uninstalling the Divinity Engine 2 editor and DLC required for it to run, and then reinstalling them, no change

I tried uninstalling the complete game, DLC, and Divinity Engine 2 editor, deleting all their folders and reinstalling them all but still.. no change...
I have tried loading a different project, no change
I have tried creating a new project but again, no change and the button still does nothing.

I am rather at a loss at this point and hope someone out there can point me in the right direction for how to fix this issue. It only started happening the day before yesterday and as I mentioned earlier.

Thanks for taking the time to read about my problem. I hope someone has some info, a recommendation or solution, or just something I can try that I haven't already.

Have a great day, peace.

Strange. Maybe try reinstalling the .NET and VC Redistributable packages. The packages should already be in Divinity Original Sin 2\_CommonRedist folder. Could also try uninstalling them first before reinstalling. Should be able to uninstall via Windows' Add/Remove Programs thing.

Do you have a meta.lsx at this path? \Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\Mods\YourMod

Does it have any content if you open it in notepad(If its there?)

If it isn't there, make a new file called meta.lsx and make sure its writeable.

Have you tried making a new project and see if it works there?

Thanks for the suggestion, I did as you suggested, reinstalling those but the project settings button still does nothing in the editor so I guess it didn't work unfortunately.

Yes, the meta.lsx files are present, their contents look as expected with correct names and such.

Yes, I have tried creating a new project (I mentioned this in the first post) and it did not change anything, the button still doesn't work even in the new project.

Pretty unfortunate circumstances.. any mods I have been making are on hold until I can figure this out. I can't access the project settings window to change things or add a thumbnail or any of that.

Maybe try reinstalling the files to a different location, might be bad sector on the disk in current folder. Maybe turn off any anti-virus too, worth a try.

Turned off firewall, turned off Antivirus software, ran Divinity Engine 2 editor, project settings button still doesn't do anything.

Uninstalled Game, Divinity Engine 2 editor, and required DLC, deleted folders.

Installed Game, Divinity Engine 2 editor and required DLC on separate hard drive. Problem remains, the project settings button still doesn't do anything.

Shaking my head here... maybe a windows rollback to last week would work. I remember it working fine all last week and last week was my last system backup. #DrasticMeasures

Try updating the .NET Framework on your system. The toolset is written in C#/.NET.

Also, what does errors.txt say about the critical error?

I don't remember exactly what the error said in the error.txt file but it read something about LSFramework.

I ran a system restoration a bit ago, reverting my entire system to last weeks backup. The error in the editor is gone for now and the project settings button works again, although I do not know what caused the problem nor if it will come back.

I had already begun this system restore at the time you had posted fireundubh, but thank you for the suggestion. I will try that if the problem reoccurs.

Unfortunately I have lost my mod files and I will have to remake all of them, I suppose the situation could be worse but it sucks to lose a weeks work over a simple button issue.

I appreciate everyone who has responded/read about this and hope if someone else has a similar issue maybe one of the options mentioned above will help them.

Thank you all.

Hi Guys,

now unfortunately the same problem. The Stats Editor button no longer works. The following error message occurs: "[StatsEditor] Error during the editor's form creation."

I really hope that someone here has a clue how to solve this problem, has now worked over 130 hours on a mod and would not want to do everything again. Rebooting the system will not work either ...

Does anyone have other suggestions?

The editor has already been uninstalled and reinstalled. Starting a new project also does not work and in existing projects the button does not work either ...

EDIT: Description of the error message: "The index was out of range. It must not be negative or smaller than the collection." And on Starting the Editor i always get this error: "FileAccess: Could not open filename steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\Mods\MODNAME\Levels\Basic\meta.lsb. Reason:It does not exist."
There is only a meta.LSX File... not lsb.

Okay, sorry for the double post, but I have found a solution:

1. Delete the Divinity Data Engine 2 folder in the Steam common folder, not in the folder of the original game.
2. Uninstall Divinity Data Engine 2.
3. Disable the patch.
4. Activate the patch.
5. Install Divinity Data Engine 2.
6. When starting the editor, select the path as in the Larian Guides again.

If someone should have the problem, it should be solvable.

It is here I think important to delete the folder of the editor by self, if one knows that there is an extra folder for it.

Guys, before you screw around with uninstalling/reinstalling, remember to backup your mods!!!

Important folders:

- Data\Mods\<your_mod>\
- Data\Projects\<your_mod>\
- Data\Public\<your_mod>\
- Data\Editor\Mods\<your_mod>\

If you delete the Data\Editor folder without backing up Data\Editor\Mods\<your_mod>\, you will not be able to load your mod in the editor again.

If you uninstall the editor without backing up Data\Editor\Mods\<your_mod>\, you will not be able to load your mod in the editor again.

If you uninstall the game without backing up anything, you will lose everything.

Backing up the .PAK file is NOT enough!

It appears my original problem has reoccured, I don't know why. The Divinity Engine 2 editor ran fine for a couple days after my system restore and now the project settings button once again does nothing. Here's the end of my errors.txt file if anyone wanted to see that.

I have no interest in continueing to try to solve the problem this time around. I feel I have wasted enough time on it previously and I will wait for a few months before I attempt to mod for Div2 again. Maybe some of these bugs or glitches or whatever they are will be resolved by then.

I HAVE A POSSIBLE SOLUTION:

----Solution----

1.) BACKUP ALL YOUR MOD FILES FROM EVERY FOLDER (5):

a.----C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\Mods

b.----C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\Projects

c.----C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\Public

d.----C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\Editor\Mods

e.----C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\Editor\Public

2.) Delete the offending mod(s); starting with your most recent mod, and going down the line, testing "Project Settings" button every time you delete a mod.
(In my case the offending mod was a mod whose meta files I tinkered with for reasons elaborated upon below.)

3.) After deleting the mod(s) in the editor's menu, create a new mod(s) with the same name(s).

4.) After successfully opening up the elusive "Project Settings" window, DO NOT delete any more mods.

5.) Now transfer all of the files you can from the old files into the new files' folders', excluding the META files. This should effectively repopulate the new mods with your old mods' precious data.

6.) You should now be able to edit the "Project Settings" for all of your mods again.

----My Reason For Triggering This Critical Error----

*I wanted to rename a mod and did everything I could to have the resulting .pak file and all mod files renamed to what I wanted the name to be, but had no success.

1.) In an attempt to do this, I backed up all of the old mod files and deleted them from the folders.

2.) I created a new mod with the "New" name i originally wanted.

3.) I went through the meta files and replaced the:
attribute id="UUID" value, in the "meta.lsx" file at this location: (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity Original Sin 2\Data\Mods\MYMOD) with my old mod's values.

4.) I did this for as many places as I found these values to correlate to the specific mod for the editor to recognize.

5.) After this, I was no longer able to edit the "Project Settings" for any of my mods.

END OF PERSONAL ISSUE

***VOILA!

I hope this helps you and others with this issue.
