Spoilers for Act 2 and Act 3 follow.

So in Act 2 I convinced Gareth to not kill his former Magister friend. Gareth decided to take him to a safe place. Not sure what happened to the friend, but I guess maybe he killed Gareth's parents?

I met Gareth at Paradise Downs, and I used my Barbarian tag to promise revenge. I went into the house and Gareth followed, but I talked him into doing what Lucian would want, so he decided to give up revenge, closing the quest.

At the start of Act 3,

Gareth is in better spirits, thanking me for setting him on the right path. He seems to be on the path that revenge sucks.

But fast forward a bit and I meet him confronting Alexander. Suddenly, he's back on the revenge kick, and I don't think my main, not a Persuasion-user, can talk him down.

Now okay, I'm certainly not the biggest fan of That Guy either, but it still seems a little odd to me to see Gareth completely reversing himself from literally the last time we saw him.

gareth, saheila and a few others had to have been written by more than one person. it's the only explanation for the tonal inconsistency throughout the game

Well, while it is a little inconsistent, it's not like a person can't change his mind, especially if they are really torn on the issue in the first place :P

That said, my problem with Gareth in Act 3 was more of a thing where I felt I really wanted Ifan to kill the asshat, so it felt a little hypocritical persuading Gareth to let go, and then telling Ifan to go ahead and do his worst :P.

I found this situation rather hilarious actually. I didn't do anything. I just watched him being slaughtered. And then I searched the body for loot of course XD

Actually, this whole thing suffers from one big problem:

Gareth is already confronting Alexander by the time you reach him. He should ACTUALLY come in AFTER you talk to him. Here's why:

The top option of the conversation is to tell Gareth not to do it because Alexander has changed. ...Except that's a completely hollow statement to say because we don't know that! We came here to find out for ourselves if he has changed. In fact, On this playthrough, I have not even met Delorus and learned that Alexander has changed.

That top conversation option is absolutely no good because I have not even spoken to Alexander yet and I am supposed to be siding with him based on absolutely nothing. In fact the entire reason I'm going to see Alexander is to see for myself if he as changed or not, I can't say either way at the point I'm forced to make the choice.

No, instead the scenario has to be reversed. First we have to talk to Alexander ourselves for a bit and then Gareth shows up - either after we finish with Alexander or during the conversation, and then we have to decide who to side with. That still doesn't change the problem of Gareths inconsistency, but it would help the situation feel less unsatisfying because you could make an informed decision.

I really would have like to have seen a persuade roll to be able to question Alexander before attacking. A middle ground would have been nice, especially if you managed to get Gareth to respect you up to then.

Something of a "let me smack him around a bit for info BEFORE you kill him with extreme prejudice". I mean I'm not saying "don't kill him ever!" I'm just saying, let my angry angry wolfman chat with him first!! Then kill him.
