I have a level 5 party outside of Fort Joy with the summon cat familiar ability on my avatar ranger. I went back into Fort Joy and confronted Orivand with the cat summoned next to me. The wiki suggests that this should prompt the cat to thank you for returning it to its master and then upgrade the swap places skill, this didn’t happen. I summoned the cat again during the fight and nothing happened. I won the fight and left the chamber and the swap places skill was still the same. Anybody know how to go about getting the ability upgrade? Thanks for any help in advance.

It doesn't have the swap places skill when you summon it during the fight? I've never heard of an upgrade for that skill; the cat simply had it from the beginning, along with Feline Leap.

“If you summon the cat familiar and return to Fort Joy to speak to High Judge Orivand, the cat will express gratitude for reuniting it with its previous owner and upgrade the Swap Places skill, allowing it to swap places with any member of your party. “

I already have the skill but the upgrade really seemed worth getting, especially to recall my Sebille assassin when she gets low on health, but I didn’t get any dialogue from the cat and the skill was the same after the fight.

You did speak with Orivand with your "pet pal" character, right ?

I didn’t actually, I entered the conversation with my avatar character who had the cat summon. The pet pal in my party is Lohse, though sometimes, when I’ve already started a conversation with my avatar, animals can speak via Lohse as sort’ve a single player shared skills system. The same happens when I identify objects, Lohse has loremaster but my avatar can still identify loremaster 1 artifacts because she shares the skill with the party. That said I will give it a go. I also tweeted at Swen Vincke, the founder of Larian Studios, with the same question and he said there wasn’t a cat upgrade so I’m not sure but I will try again anyway.

That's a big hint which probably means there is no cat upgrade and the random website you got your information from is in the wrong.
