you have to know what to do beforehand and even then, be extremely careful about knocking people out. if you don't care about saving the dwarf, that at least solves one of your problems, but as for your companions, the best you can do is just keep them healed while you hit them
Yeah, we weren't expecting complete bullshit fight mechanics out of nowhere. You can make the fight crazy, like that flaming scarecrow lady near Hannag and Jahan, but permanently possessing and essentially charming one of your guys when you only have 2 is just broken.
It's just a lousy encounter and is a real kidney shot if you don't know exactly what's going to happen.
edit: sorry to hear about your run though, that's really frustrating. hopefully you can forgive larian and try another run at some point
