I don't know, it always seems kind of strange to me when people encounter a new fantasy world with new lore and proceed to react along the lines of: "But these aren't the ____ I personally want and expected because in ____ they are different."
From lore viewpoint, new elves look stirred quite a discussion. As you probably remember, elves in Divine Divinity and even Divinity Original Sin 1 looked quite similar to humans... So bringing lore into this is kind of tricky.
However, fortunately you are no longer dependent just on developers. There's some growing modding comunity for this game on the nexus database which makes quite interesting stuff, some even dealing with elven textures, maybe eventually also models.
