I am trying to create a generic book.. and put some pretty information in it. I can do this by dropping in a Generic Book from the resources and then modding the USE Action tag.

Then add a BOOK action and in the "Bood ID" type the text you want to appear in the book.

In the example of Alexanders Journal, Larian seem to be using a pointer to somewhere that contains the Journal Text ?...

Anyone know where you can link the book ID to some text.
On the USE Actions I can just type a load of text and it will display in the book... but it would be nicer to do it the correct way and enter pointer to the text somewhere... as they do in this example.

Nice one... I was digging in there but could not find the Alexander book so thought I was barking up the wrong tree.

SO if anyone needs to know... how its done.

1: Translated String Editor.
2: Create "New Translated String Key"
3: Add your "Translated String".

Key = MYBook
Content = Blah blah blah ... demons dragons etc..

4: Save
5: Drop a Generic Book on your level
6: Edit the Use Actions in the sidebar.
7: In the actions menu, clear any actions and add a BOOK action with the "BOOD ID" of your translated string. in this case "MYBook" .

Save reload etc....

Grab the book in game, read it...

Hi,

Glad to see you figured it out, I will update the property description to make this clearer.

This was very helpful. Thank you! What do I use if my PC needs to read a letter instead of a book? I can't find a way for my letter to look like a letter when it's opened and read.

Did you assign the BOOK action in the "Use Actions" property of the letter? Scott wrote up a step by step process on the wiki here. Same rules should apply, just start with a root template that looks like a piece of paper.

Yes, I followed the instructions and it works, it just looks like a book instead of a letter when I use it. The root template ID is BOOK_Letter_B. I also tried with BOOK_Letter_A and got the same book-looking background upon using.

(Also the instructions as they are written in the wiki are wrong, but they are correct in this thread.)
