I had major problems with trying to update & load save games after I upgraded Windows 10 last week to 1709 (Fall Creators Update).
Turned out I had turned on "Windows Defender" , "Controlled Folder Access". This blocks "unwanted" programs from accessing certain files. In my case, DOS2 couldn't read?/write files in my users folder.
This caused DOS2 to crash on loading any save games, file errors on updating, etc...
I also tried fully fully reinstalling DOS2 which said it worked but would error on starting new games.
Turning off "Controlled Folder Access" (Windows Settings => Update & Security => Windows Defender => open Defender Security Centre => Virus & Threat Protection => Virus & Threat Protection Settings =>Controlled Folder Access (turn it OFF to fix!)
I thought with this turned on, Defender would alert me if a program tried to access protected folders/files - but no it doesn't, it just causes said program to crash because of no file access...
