It would be nice if Addytude could see everything when she arrives in an area and could look around with the mouse to edge of screen sorta thing. We spend alot or mostly half of our game playing time walking around errasing the blacked out area so we can see the area then we go to work yaknow.....Like in Morrowind you can look around etc. But Divive is a much better game the graphics, how wonderfull. The music, how wonderfull.

Personally i think it would be interesting if there was no fog of war. I feel
the fog of war (black areas) makes the game EASIER. You will almost always know where you've walked before and it makes it easy to find almost every little spell cave/rock/tree/wishing well on the map. Like morrowind where everything was visible it easily led to the situtation where you would walk right past dungeons and entrances just a screen out of the way and never know about it.

So if they want to emphasise exploration i believe the fog of war must go completely. I saw maps of the sewers in the game, but the diary-maps made those pretty useless, would be interesting if you would have to aquire such maps in the game before it will be viewable on your diary. Because alot of this game is about exploring but the easyness of it makes you rather pick fighting skills than exploration skills.

that reminds me of NWN. You could buy the maps too. But then again if you explored it all you had them too. If you bought them, you didnt have to explore anything. IIRC that only worked in the city. But hey its a start.

I really really really do not like that idea personally. I like exploring alot. The fog of war help you in exploring areas and is a good game dynamic.

I do like the idea of using maps in game. Perhaps they could "unlock" areas on a map that without finding the map, you would never find them when just exploring?

hmmmm

I'm also an "Explorer-type" player, but I do see the point in maps: The dark forest was just too big, I believe ...

yes buying and or finding maps is a good idea and maybe you could buy them marked (flagged)or unmarked for all important spots, like for example walk through walls, that you may happen to miss, like i did...till i read it here somewhere

Then all those secret areas will be spoiled. It will be just the matter of buying/finding map.
If I am not mistaken, There was fog of war in Morrowind (global map). And as you were moving, you opened black area on your minimap.

Question. If you want to turn that fog of war off, should your map show monsters/NPC's?

Larian guys may probably make an option of turning fog of war on and off, but honestly I don't like this idea. DD was directed to exploration, you had to go through every inch of the map carefully, because it could contain treasure.
I liked that feeling of surprise, that something could have awaited me behind those trees or in that little chest.

fog of war is good, and maps as well, just think of the map as you would draw them as you explore the area, what would be better is that your character says: "hmm, behind the busshes seems to be a cave entrance to me" and that it gets pointed out on the map.

that way you know that there is something there.

I like, what Viper is saying, that is there is some hidden cave in your sight, then your character should say that he sees something, just small hint.
That IMHO will raise character interaction with environment, but also will not spoil things

I like that. You could purchase a map which has the roads and towns and shops etc. on it in ink, and as you scout the area, the map fills in with life-like colour. That way, you're not left blind as to which route to take or where unmissable landmarks are, but the things that commoners don't know about are still hidden until you find them. By colouring in the map as you explore, it would also appease those who use the fog-of-war as a guide to where they haven't been yet.

In some other games I've played there has been maps you buy as soon as your in a new area. If in each new area there is a town or something you could go to to local map man. and the thing about the player giving a hint is cool

For the next game of Divinity, one has to drop issues that are next to impossible to accomplish. I am talking about the silver chest plate that "can be upgraded with the correct enchantment". Good luck finding that one without the walkthrough.

Right, even if there are such quests/easter eggs, it would be nice to see at least some tips/hints in game on how to get/solve them.

Maps were great, but how can you know that you need exactly 2002 gp in your inventory to teleport into another area?

I remember running all over the place, trying to get that special charm ( dropped by the dragon rider in the Imp castle ) placed into the silver armour. Grrrrrr
