So I'm currently creating a project for school. I thought the theme fit quite well with one of the songs from this game. Is there any possible way I could use one of the songs for the documentary? Do I have to purchase a license? Credit the artist/developer?

Short answer - nope!
Crediting does give you no rights whatsoever to music or video of anything - unless it is expressly permitted.

Longer answer
Write Larian and ask.
Explain what the project is. What the content will be. How it will be presented. How many will see/hear it. Whether or not it is distributed in any form whatsoever.

Then you have a fifty-fifty chance. A yes or a no.

But always ask.

What you see on Youtube where someone states that it is OK because they have stated they don't own the copyright....
It's a lie. Doesn't work that way.

Oh, that's unfortunate. I doubt Lorian would actually give me their consent, lol.

Regardless, thank you for answering.

Don't ever censure yourself that way.
Ask.

They might say yes.

At one point I asked an american artist if I could use two of her graphic pieces in a brochure.
She asked what it was for and ended up sending me a set of 7 different ones specially made for our project.

Anyway. The fact that you ask might sway them in the direction of being helpful.

What Mr The Loafer said: ask. I must admit I'm not totally sure who to ask, I'm guessing support@larian.com may be a good starting point.

I understand the pessimism to some degree, I mean when I asked EA for a better example of some artwork in Inquisition they flatly refused without even considering it, but Larian aren't EA. And even with EA I'd still ask again in future, because they may give permission if it's a blue moon and there are flying pigs, but they definitely won't if I don't ask!

And that my friend, is the key to success.

P.S.
Also. Being a Goddess gives you a head start - doesn't it?

If it's just a small thing you'll use for your class only (and not the whole school, no web access, ...) no one is going to find out you used this music unless you make a post in an official forum. hehe

If it's somewhat more public I'd suggest to either mail them, as suggested by others, or search for free to use music. E.g. Kevin MacLeod's is quite well-known. In pretty much every case all he asks for is giving him credits. There's plenty of stuff, you're bound to find something that suits your needs.
