I think the issue with the sold containers was done, because sold containers can be exploited with thievery: Sell the container and steal is back with all the stuff in it to max effort. Make a toggle to hide all sold stuff would solve the real problem much easier in my opinion anyway.
The first thing is really a bad choice that did not need a fix.
