I would say: "The bigger, the better".
It of course depends on what you want to do, but a larger file (in dimension) would allow you to zoom in more in case you want some locations to be really close to eachother and still have a decent quality map.
I am using one that is "only" 1500x1500 pixels and it suits me just fine.

Thank you for the fast answer. I asked that cause i tried to load an image about 3000x2000 px and i found that (maybe because of the zoom out limit) i wasn't able to view the entire image, but i will follow your hint since if it works for you it surely work for me laugh

Wait..maybe the aspect ratio is the cause think

I don't think the aspect ratio is the problem. My map doens't fit either.
To me that isn't much of a problem as I only play with a steady group and develop the campaign as it goes. I have the map published on the net and had my players download it for reference.
Also. if you use a vignette, you can show the players the whole map when needed.

Hey! I'm curious - you Overview map is not working properly (doesn't fit) and you can't show it to the players?

There are controls on edge of frame allowing to crop and transform image. Isn't that not enough? You also scale it with mouse wheel and drag around while holding mouse left button

I can show the map to the players, just not all of it when used as a map. I am aware of the controls, but I think my map is simply to large to fit completely, which isn't a problem for me at all.
The map is 1500x1500 and I am running the game at 1920x1080.
It works fine as a vignette.
This is the best I can do with the map as a map:
map 1
map 2
vignette

Can you please send me a original picture of a map? =)
I would like to run some tests and see what is going on

so it depends on the aspect ratio! I was not aware of the controls on edge of frame. Thanks Seter smile
