Is there a known bug concerning the special duty the Lt gave to the drunk soldiers from the inn? The troll just stands there, I hear Marius (I think) say he's too big, darn Lt, etc and sometimes find one of them near a cliff up hill but if you speak with him (he thanks you for NOT ratting on him?), the game freezes. Tried all the normal stuff, closing and opening game, rebooting, etc to no avail.

Hmm, haven't encountered that myself but it does sound a bit odd: normally it's a very close thing whether or not I get there in time as the troll is already pulverising them. I'm not sure what to suggest other than load from an earlier save and see if it's any better; I guess if it still sticks you could report it to the usual support email and hopefully someone might take a look.

IIRC I think there should be a cutscene started as you approach (just the camera zooming... maybe a brief dialog), with the seekers and troll fighting.

If an earlier save doesn't help (or you don't have any recent ones), try loading the save in the Developer Mode version (for the Developer's Cut release) and use the 'reload scrips' command. Don't continue playing from there if that doesn't help (reload or exit to switch back to the normal mode).
If you email your save (or a Dropbox or Google drive link, etc) to support@larian.com, I can take a look at it.

With the PC version, in XP the saves are in the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Local Settings\Application Data\Divinity 2\Savegames

or in Vista, Win 7/8/10
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Divinity 2\Savegames

You may need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders (see here).

The dialog about not ratting them out is normal; if the fight proceeds as intended, being fast enough to speak to Merrill (before he is killed) is a way to open the hatch by the church, otherwise only opened if you get Louis to go easy on them.

I'm well past that now. The troll is still there and still ignores me but I suspect Merrill and company are now residing in the hall of echos. It doesn't sound like I missed out on much regardless. Leave it to me to find a new and random bug. smile

I suppose if I had gotten there in time, I could save those new order guys or something. I'm not sure about a hatch near a church (I assume the derelict one) but I found so many that I'm thinking I may have opened it from the inside.

No, you didn't miss much; there is just a bit of experience for killing the troll. It isn't possible to save the Seekers.
The hatch I was referring to is beside the church in town, on the side with the graveyard. It is a smallish area, with a couple opponents and a bit of loot.

I thought you could save them and they wandered off rather sheepishly? Or maybe I'm thinking of some other guys. I do recall the hatch now that you mention it, there was some reasonable loot though balanced with a fair bit of aggravation!

Found the hatch in my new game (until I was able to restart the original playthrough) but wasn't able to open it (yet). I did go easy on them this time but I may have found it prior to speaking with the Lt. Anyway, that'll have to wait as I just arrived in Aloroth with my ranger (original character) and got the slayer commander arrested. I look at it as protective custody until she understands. grin

The Seekers wander off sheepishly if you tell their commander it wasn't a big deal. Talking to Merrill in the barracks after that will lead to the hatch being open.
