I'm sorry if I'm posting old news; excuse my newbie-ness.
In the basement of Imp's Castle, after you kill off everything
and have hit the goodie room, there's a chest that weighs nothing.
I grabbed it and put some stuff into it, and sho' nuff it appeared
to function as a weight reduction container within my inventory.
(Overcoming my EverQuest addiction with this)
