I'm interested in making maps for you folks, but unfortunately I've never played GM mode or any other type of D&D. So my question is: for those of you with experience, what makes a good GM-mode map?

For instance, is there an ideal size? Should it be linear or open-ended? Do you prefer it to come with writing or be a blank slate? NPCs, enemies, or neither? Traditional fantasy setting or something else? If it's the most eye-rollingly obvious information to those of you in the know, chances are it's something I need to hear.

If the answer is "it depends", then just tell me what sounds best to you at the moment. I promise I won't take it as scripture.

I can only speak for myself, but as a GM and map builder, I'd say any well build map of any size is more than welcome.
Every GM will have his own setting and preferences and thus will be looking for different maps than others. Just go build some cool maps, no matter what, and I'm sure we will all love them.

First of all, a big thank you to RED here and all the other modders who share their brilliant work!

As an old PnP GM I love the game, love creating and telling stories, but have no time to build from scratch via the editor.

You guys makes it possible for me to do it anyway.

And to you question: What RED said, and for me it is also very appreciated if maps has finished interiors, like cities have shops or taverns with interiors done. Saves me time to focus on creating my story.
