I'm interested in making maps for you folks, but unfortunately I've never played GM mode or any other type of D&D. So my question is: for those of you with experience, what makes a good GM-mode map?

For instance, is there an ideal size? Should it be linear or open-ended? Do you prefer it to come with writing or be a blank slate? NPCs, enemies, or neither? Traditional fantasy setting or something else? If it's the most eye-rollingly obvious information to those of you in the know, chances are it's something I need to hear.

If the answer is "it depends", then just tell me what sounds best to you at the moment. I promise I won't take it as scripture.
