Beginning game spoiler alert...

I have Fane in my party and have tried approaching Kniles the Flenser with him alone, as well as with every other member of my party and he always just outright attacks us.

I want to give him Atusa's leg so that we can avoid the combat, and I have it in my inventory but there is not a moment when I can give it to him before combat!

Is my persuasion not high enough? I am confused as to why I cant speak with Kniles at all, he only calls me out for being an intruder and I have to click "End".

Thank you everyone in advance for your help. I really want this face ripper but I don't think I can beat Kniles.

While I've always ended up fighting him, he's never called me an "intruder". Usually there is a bunch of dialog that leads into us eventually fighting. Did you already fight in the arena and get your collar removed? Have you gone around killing every single magister and silent monk? Those are two things off the top of my head that might make his attitude towards you hostile.

My collar is removed on my main character. I have only killed 1 magister. I would think if I talked with him on another character with the collar on it would work though? Let me try that again just to be sure. Good tips!

Doesn't matter who I go up with, unless my collar being off affects everyone even at great distance.

I am bummed that I can't give him the leg, as that was the main reason I restarted the game after my last escape.

Come to think of it, I did kill those two majisters by the boy and the boat just before going up to Kniles. Maybe you can't talk to him if you kill them?

Wow, I did not even know it was possible to interact with Kniles without it ending in a fight!!!

Once you remove your collar your entire group becomes hostile to all magisters. You aren't missing much by killing Kniles. There is only 1 interaction later in Act 2 that might benefit by keeping him alive, but even then, if your persuasion is high enough it doesn't matter.

Well that explains it! Thank you BigTerj.

I have tried killing him about 8 times and after I kill Kniles the monks and meat bags rip my party up so I will have to go level up a little more and try again. Too bad I don't have anyone that can pickpocket. wink

This is probably the toughest fight in Fort Joy, so leave it till you're weapons match your level and you've got the skills you want. Focus on burning Kniles down as fast as possible and then deal with the additional enemies as they come. If you have lots of knockdowns and teleports available in your group you can keep the enemies on the ground for most of the fight.

A couple of tricks to try (I am a chronic "re-starter", so have done this fight a lot). Teleport is your friend, even if it is just with the gloves. You can teleport Kniles to you and beat the stuffing out of him (for me, physical damage until armor gone, then knock him down, dead in round 2) or if you are in the right spot, you can teleport him into one of the cages, which gives you a few minutes to whittle down the silent monks.
