If I'm already maxxed out in a particular skill
and then equip an item that gives you +1 to that
skill, does it actually go up or is 5 really the max?
thanks!

Five is the max, so the skill would stay at level 5.

Thanks <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If your lockpick is maxxed out, and you still cannot
pick a certain lock, I assume that means you must
quest to get the key? (the graveyard, for instance)

Correct. There are several doors/hatches which either require a key/lever, or are opened up by certain quests or events.

Level 5 is considdered perfection. Some skills, like Repair, would be pointless above level 5 (unless you could repair it better than it was originally made!)

I've got to stop shooting down my own ideas.

And I cannot enter the graveyard until I've
done Stormfist Castle, yes? I was trying to
postpone that as long as possible because I'm
too attached to my teleporter stones... it's
just too convenient to loot/port/stash/rinse/repeat!

Well now there's an idea <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Any bonus items that
raise your repair skill past max *should* enable you
to improve the item!

petition that <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The only problem is, if you could repair something to 110%, you could sit there and just keep repairing it and it would rapidly become more indestructable. We don't need more game imballances.

You have a point. Perhaps, then, a one-time boost to an
item based on a percentage of its original durability?

It's all about rewards, baby! (well, some of the time, anyway...)

Correct, you can not get to the graveyard until after the castle.

That's good! Now we just have to sort out the issues with a few other skills (Survivor's Instinct springs to mind) and it could be done!

Why thanks <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I haven't used Survivor's Instinct yet;
I'm pretty grinchy with my points - afraid to commit!
Last game I saved them up until the end and then blew everything on
the wrong skill and couldn't kill Josephina Part Deux. I had to
go back and reload a game and max out Hellspike...

Are you saying it's worth spending a point there?

survivor's instinct is good to spend a few points on, the more points the faster the re-charge, it is a useful skill IMO <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I think Survivor's Instinct is alright if you're going to go all the way with it. One or two points is useless, but five is quite useful.

My point was that this skill gets closer to zero as you put more points into it. If you had more than five skill points in it, you would be recarging health in negative-time? For super-skill-points to work, it would have to read something like "Regain x health points every 5 seconds" where x is your level in the skill.

On the first point: <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohh.gif" alt="" />

On the second point: So theoretically repairing a PC beyond *their* durability?

I like it.

Maybe temporarily, like temp god mode, only you can swing.

On the third, as of yet unaddressed point: What's handEfood? SpaceFood Sticks/Hotpockets/Twinkies? God bless you.

Low levels of Survivor's Instinct are handy when you return to town to sell loot, etc., but not that useful while exploring/fighting. A maxed Survivor's Instinct regains 1 hit point every 4 seconds. For a bonus;

Level 5: Regenerate vitality at a rate of 4
bonus 1: Regenerate vitality at a rate of 2
bonus 2: Regenerate vitality at a rate of 1
bonus 3: Regenerate vitality at a rate of 0.5
bonus 4: Regenerate vitality at a rate of 0.25

That's all? Seems like a really bad use of points then, when you can do much more damage putting five points into, say, Elemental Hail or Hellspike than wasting them on a measly 4 hps per second regen.... what am I missing this time?

never used that skill but i "assume" that you would first select that skill then right click to activate and then select the item u want repaired, just make sure item u want to fix is visible

Some skills are passive and some are more like spells, they have to be selected and then cast on the target. The passive ones have their icons greyed out and are always running in the background, bestowing whatever particular benefit upon you at all times.

Repair may not seem to work sometimes because if your repair skill is only at level one, it only repairs 20% (I think) of an item's durability, so if you have something that is at 5/10, attempting to repair it further with a skill level 1 won't show any result. If the item was at 1/10, however, you'd see it repaired to 2. (If my 20% is the correct number.)

I'm sure there will be a flurry of more complete responses by the time I hit the complete key....
