After respeccing an Origin character, their portrait changes entirely.

I heard about the bug with the black specs on the portrait, but never heard any mention of the portrait image changing *entirely*..

Here's an example with Beast.. Before and after respeccing: https://imgur.com/a/POKEE (I did not alter his appearance at all - otherwise I could understand the change..)

Please tell me this is a bug?? His original portrait is *much* better!!! I didn't bother restarting the game when I messed up his build because I knew there would be a respec mirror later on -- but if I'd known it would f**k up his portrait this bad, I would have just restarted the game..

Now I'm worried about progressing further in the game.. I don't want to be stuck with this portrait. frown

I also have this problem when using the mirror, Origin characters seem to get a much worse portrait if you use the mirror with them. Happened with Ifan, Sebille and Red Prince.

The original portraits look much better, Sebilles look extra bad since she gets some black spots on hers aswell.

Yea.. I mean I feel like it should change if you alter their appearance so that the portrait reflects their appearance.. But if you don't change how they look at all, then the portrait should stay the same as it originally was, imo.

Yup, using the mirror still ruins origin character portraits. If you're playing as an origin character, it also happens at character creation (ie. game start), which is quite annoying. It happens even if you didn't change anything about the appearance or even click the tab, so yeah, the bug is definitely still in the game.

The same issues are complained about in these threads:

I have found the way to return original portraits for origin characters using savegame editor.
Check this post for savegame extractor and follow instructions there to decompress your save file to xml file. http://larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=605573

In xml file find all occurences of <node id="PlayerCustomData"> node.

This node represents some sort of character profile appearence. Inside the node is bunch of "attribute" nodes. OriginName node as name suggests contains name of origin character. New ugly origin portrait is stored in CustomIconImg node. The node has value attribute with long string. This is new encoded portrait image. Delete the string, and leave value attribute empty, like this: value="". Repeat the procedure for all origin characters with messed up portraits.

Now pack your edited save following tutorial above. Load the save and voila! Your origin companions have those great personal portraits again. Only Ifan has portrait that doesn't suit him(see imgur post), I'll use mirror for him once more :)

Thank you for the fix Cherry Bomb! I thought Larian would eventually patch this, but alas no luck.

Yup having this issue as well. Not a huge deal, but the originals really do look better...

It seems this method no longer works as the game has now ditched the origin character portraits for me. Yet, when I extract the save file, everything is in order according to Cherry Bomb's instructions. It's annoying that this happens at all. Please fix this, Larian!
