So, I've noticed two flaws with this game that I feel could come quite in handy with fixing each other.

Flaw #1: Shortage of enemies/exp. This is most evident in the beginning of the game from Fort Joy. There is a disturbing lack of enemies and quests to make boss fights a little easier. This results in having to use cheap tactics to fight people like the houndmaster, the flenser and Orivand such as throwing out oil barrels and the like.

Flaw #2: You have a fishing rod that is designed like a weapon but is completely useless as one and no fishing. There are fish everywhere and even a village that seems to have fishing as a main export but you, the all-powerful godwoken, only seem to have the brain capacity to hit people with a basic tool!

Solution: Implement fishing with a risk! Fishing can be done just like digging in the game where a pool can be 'mined' for fish a limited number of times within an hour or until you level. From that pool, you can get fish, crafting materials or, if you're lucky/unlucky (depending on your point of view), you get a voidwoken fight. The game points out that the voidwoken are in the water throughout it and even has quests where going near the water spawns them so why not make them more of a threat? This provides a new source for some rare loot and crafting materials and an opportunity for people to get some spare levels and feel like they have a fighting chance. For those who are used to playing JRPGs where you just grind until you can one-shot the boss, this gives them more of a chance to bring what they know and, by limiting how many times you can fish per level/hour, they still have to focus the story and quests to get through the game.

Grinding and farming is a terrible idea in a game like OS2.

Throwing oil barrels is cheap?...
I usually block the passages with chests and teleport priority targets out one by one...always seemed like legit way of doing things. Or put grenades one by one in a container and teleport that in, then blow it up...another quite legit thing.

The problem is more, the early game needs more fights and with less well equipped enemies, but the storyline does not fit that well or better the said, the fort scene itself is to small and short to provide enough possibilities. The start is badly balanced.

don't think, that fishing for voidlings would make it really more interesting or better. Sounds like a pretty tedious way to farm more exp and gear.

It's not meant to be a pure grinding mechanic, that's why I suggested limiting the number of times you can use a pool. If you put 10 uses to the pool and put in like a 1/10 chance of a voidling, it's still pretty balanced without breaking the mechanics and still gives people a chance to get ahead if they're more used to over-leveling and crushing things instead of focusing strategy. I personally love using the battle system to manipulate the battlefield to my liking and trapping an enemy in a small room filled with poison is a great thing but, there are those who prefer to focus pure combat and decimate the field with melee and magic or, even those who only want to use one character while making the rest of their party AI through mods. I'm not suggesting making it so stepping in the water has a chance of spawning a voidling or that you'll even get voidlings every time you click the hole but a chance at a fish, gear, or voidling would be quite useful early game and could come in handy throughout. Especially if you're playing multiplayer with someone who is new and wants to wander off and talk to EVERYONE so you just wander off and fish for a bit while they do pointless stuff.

Edit: As for people against it simply because they think it will be tedious or they don't want to use it to get extra exp and/or gear, nothing says you have to even fish. Never pick up a fishing rod, you can't fish. Never click the hole, it won't change a thing. This is meant for people who prefer it and, if you don't, then just don't click the fishing pool.

Dude....ehm...why not play a game where you can fish and gather resources like FFXIV? These things take away from development focus.

In OS2 you can be damn well overleveled on what you already have, and that after you escape the Fort.

Because it's not about the fishing and, had you actually read the post, you'd understand that. I am offering a feature to improve the game that is completely optional. To me, having a fishing rod that is completely useless in this game is just flawed and I'm offering an opportunity to give it a purpose and add a fun feature to the game for those that want to do it. If it's not your thing, fine but don't trash it just cause you don't want to do it. It's not like I'm dragging you to the pool and telling you to fish, I'm just saying put a pool there for the option to fish.

I'd prefer cheesy tactics over fishy strategies.
