You can max Elven/Ranger Sight and keep any equipment you find with a sight bonus to get the largest sight range. Also, apparently if you cast Wizard's Sight twice in the same place, the map will remain clear. A teleporter stone can be tossed onto the mountains or raised plateaus to move around (toss and teleport to it) and clear otherwise inaccessible locations.
