When I first started playing this game, I had all kinds of problems including the one your having. It would crash randomly(and OFTEN) while I was just walking around. I followed ALL of the support recomendations as far as grafix and other settings go, but I still had the same problems, I could'nt figure it out. Then one day I diabled the setting in the DD config screen called SMOOTHNESS. I have not had any problems since. I had problems with saving and getting kicked out to windows almost every day.. Now it runs as clean as can be. I don't know if this will solve your problem but it worked like a charm for me!! Give that a try...
