Can anyone tell me how many romances (for lack of a better word) there are in this game?

There are a couple love letters in the game, one a reference to Romeo and Juliet, but that is as close to romance you can get. There is a 'find the tarts' quest in Verdistis which leads to a brothel. There is an elf by the well in the elven village that your character claims to fall in love with, but the only allowed course of action is anything but romantic.

You mean Penumbra. Check out the 'special treatment' in the brothel after freeing her and meeting her at Corinna's house; talk to the wayward husband, then the bartender...

The Romeo and Juliet thing was an ongoing theme in the game; the house with the love letter was one, but don't forget Isadore and Gareth are a Romeo and Juliet too... *SPOILER* he wants the feign death potion remember?
