I lent it to my mother, which was probably a cruel thing now I think about it.

Ow yes, that's cruel!

I fear I won't finish it either...
I think I will continue with the Wizard's First Rule-series.

The Belgariad was Eddings' best, I think. After that, it all became extremely repetitive. The plots are all the same, character archtypes are recycled, even certain lines are reused - over and over and over.

Unfortunately, you'll find that Sword of Truth series is no less repetitive.

i have read that book, it's a good story..
And you don't have to read them in order...

I have been frozen in my seat on many occasions not wanting to move my mouse for fear of what might happen next, I’ve heard sounds and voices so clear that I was becoming unsure if they were actually coming from the speakers

i read all wheel of time books from Robert Jordan and they´r very excellent.
the recluce-cyclus is good goes up and down between the books
now i read the forgotten realms > Drizzt Do`Urden. very excellent. too.

when interested in sci-fi:
I found Mech Force 1-20 very good. but it´s a long time ago i read them. 15 years i guess. now there are about 50 books out. Books 1-10 were imho the best.

For FR books, may I suggest Elaine Cunningham? IMO, her style and quality are way above most of the usual stuff seen in FR novels. Her characters are three-dimensional and entertaining, and not a single one of them is an invincible killing machine like a certain drow angst-puppy. (Defeating dragons, balor... oh, my rosy red behind.) Yes, that includes R.A. Salvatore who - again, this is my opinion - has milked the Drizzt cash cow dry long ago. Will some orc run the angst-ridden virgin lavender-eyed drow ubermunckin/Marty Stu through with a rusty spear, already?

Elaine Cunningham now thats a name that sounds familiar. I use to read some Forgotten Realms before I switched over to Warhammer. I read The Dream Spheres, and almost half of Evermeet Island of Elves that were from Elaine Cunningham.

Yes, that's her. She's also written Starlight & Shadow (featuring Liriel Baenre, a drow princess who escapes to the surface and is not a goody-two-shoes, but rather a wizard seeking to retain her power) and Counselor & King (trilogy set in Halruaa, and one of the best fantasy series I've read, not just one of the best FR books. Full of intriques, original plot, complex characters and a very rich setting).

Mandrake: Considering Drizzt's attitude toward female surfacers in general, I think the rusty spear'd be less painful for him. Plus, lady Alustriel already has a husband. Oh, there's Catti-brie... But is it just me, or are all of Salvatore's original female characters - Alustriel isn't his - bloody annoying? Danica, Catti... Guh.

I actually like Catti but Danica could be annnoying at times. I laughed when she knocked herself out on that rock trying to split it in half with her head.

My favorite series, which happens to be written by my favorite author
(Terry Brooks) is definately the Shannara series.

The First Trilogy
The Sword of Shannara
The Elfstones of Shannara
The Wishsong of Shannara

Followed by another series
The Scions of Shannara
The Druid of Shannara
The Elf Queen of Shannara
The Talismans of Shannara

Then Terry Brooks wrote the Prequel to the entire series
The First King of Shannara

And apparently he's written a whole new trilogy based on Jerle Shannara
(who many of the main characters in the novels descended from)...
In my opinion... probably the most addictive series available, even today.

I don't like the Rincewind arc all that much; I prefer Death, the Watch, and the Witches. But Terry Pratchett is always good.

Love it!

So, i just finished the Wizards First Rule - Terry Goodkind...
Well - 800+ pages - 3 days. I couldn't put it down.
It was on sale for 4.99 canadian...so i figured why not. Well, it was the money well spent...i loved it. Now, i have to go and buy the whole series (S**t - that is why i try to stay away from series - too much money!!!!!) So, some people may have critized it a wee bit here, but i am really looking forward to the next one.

Oh - and the one who dies in Harry Potter - i did guess who it was going to be when i remebered who he was. Boy - he was short lived - two books only!

After this, i think i will give Robert Jordan a try...
I am running out of books to read though.

I have to go to a second hand book store before i leave though - buy some disposable books. I am anal...i take too much good care of my books. Don't break or bend the spine...no dog earing of covers/pages. My sister doesn't even borrow books off me, casue she is scared to wreck (in my eyes) them! The books i have all look like they are brand new, still off the shelf. I didn't get to play witht he kitty yet - so here he is!

Same here, same here. But there are some people who aren't afraid to borrow my books. Well, I just scare them ;0). After I found a white line on one of my Discworld books, I do not lend my books anymore.

About favorite books:
I am reading (at the same time) -

George R.R. Martin - A Song of Ice and Fire books
Anne Rice - Vampire books (actually I have stopped: I have a gap between 'Interview...' and 'Queen of the Damned'
Earls Gardner - Perry Mason books
Mickey Spillane - Mike Hammer books
