For FR books, may I suggest Elaine Cunningham? IMO, her style and quality are way above most of the usual stuff seen in FR novels. Her characters are three-dimensional and entertaining, and not a single one of them is an invincible killing machine like a certain drow angst-puppy. (Defeating dragons, balor... oh, my rosy red behind.) Yes, that includes R.A. Salvatore who - again, this is my opinion - has milked the Drizzt cash cow dry long ago. Will some orc run the angst-ridden virgin lavender-eyed drow ubermunckin/Marty Stu through with a rusty spear, already?
