How is weapon "length" the one criterion for the ability to make an attack of opportunity??? If you're trying to be realistic about it, what about a dozen other factors like weapon swing speed, maneuverability, the attacker's level of proficiency with the weapon, the combatants' reaction time, how much space is available around them, specific positions of each combatant relative to each other and relative to their surroundings, the specific conditions of their body and mind, how much health they have left, whether they are moving at their normal speed or not, whether they've had breakfast or not, etc.
