1) Problem: No sound or strange artifacts while the sound is playing
This problem definitely occurs with older SB Live drivers and the solution is simply to get the latest drivers. On some systems, this problem got solved by turning the windows hardware acceleration of the sound driver down by one notch. In this thread
Sound anamalies somebody solved the problem through installing DirectX 9.0a and disabling the hardware support completely.
Don't know if it will help in your case, but if I were you, I would first try to turn the windows hardware acceleration down by one notch, like mentioned above.
