But the naming confusion is part of the charm of the series! I mean just to take Divinity 2, which was actually the third Divinity game, and also known as Ego Draconis, and (plus Flames of Vengeance) also known as the Dragon Knight Saga. And is now being confused with Original Sin 2 thanks to the artwork apparently calling the latter Divinity 2 too.
