For now, I'm assuming that DOS2 is the baseline that BG3 will build from. So when I see something important missing from DOS2 I'm hoping that BG3 will "correct" the oversight.
For this suggestion, I'd like to see BG3 have some variety in its loot mechanics.
I can understand that DOS2 assumes that all co-op looting should be handled like looting is handled in tabletop RPGs. But, unfortunately, that just isn't how the real world works.
In tabletop D&D, it's easy to have a very cooperative group where battles are done and then there is an organized looting and distribution of spoils. But in DOS2, if you have one over eager loot-fiend in the party, everyone else is stuck making mad rushes to bodies and chests or doing really bad things like looting in combat so they don't have to "compete" for rewards after. In video games some people simply need in-game mechanics to help them be better citizens/party members.
The solution is to give a group leader the ability to set some (optional) loot rules. At the very least there should be a coin auto-split option. And I'd like to see a need/greed/random option as well. Being able to except certain types of looting from "group rules" would be great (like pick-pocketing and looting from stealth.) But, in general, even the most cooperative group would enjoy having auto-split and need/greed options so there can be quick resolutions to contested items and fair coinage distribution without wasting time moving things around.
