And thanks for the recap on the rules, I haven't played the 5th at all smile So will be a lot of new things for me to discover. Currently playing Pathfinder Kingmaker and this is where these feelings came from, I didn't feel like a cleric from a roleplay perspective, made me realise how often this aspect of a cleric just gets left out.

But, this is Larian now, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they fleshed it all out. And not only Clerics.

5e also has religious classes/subclasses then Cleric. Druid, Rangers, and Paladin all most cast divine magic, although their magic doesn't have to come from a God. Barbarians have a religious subclass in XGTE called the Zealot, which doesn't cast spells but does use religious magic. The Divine Soul is a Sorcerer subclass with a feature called Divine Magic, which allows them to cast Divine Magic spells from the Cleric Spell list. Later they get wings that they can summon and dismiss, and the abililty to buff healings spells. They don't need a Patron God, they have an Ancestor God (they are descended from Gods or their spiritual servants, like Celestials or Fiends, or the God just decides to give them a divine spark, ect....), so their Divine Magic comes from their own divinity, but most likely serve a Patron God and often act like Priests, usually getting treated and viewed more like Clerics then Sorcerers. They have an affinity for either Law, Good, Evil, or Chaos, but it comes from the source of their divine spark, not from their own alignment, and this effects thier bonu spell know and the appearance of their wings later (Law=bless and Eagle wings, Chaos= Bane and Bat Wings, Good= Eagle Wings, Cure Wounds, and Evil= Bat Wing, Inflicit Woundd, Neutral= Dragonfly Wings, Protection from Good and Evil).

Monks some times form religious orders like Sun Souls.
