Isn't that the German demo? Just in case, as a warning, so that no one downloads in vain.

Why "download in vain" ?
a) You can learn the German language,
b) some people even played Gothic without knowing much German (as an FAQ at DLH shows).

Well, assume you download a demo of a game you are anticipating, and then realize it's say in Czech, and you don't understand a word. Wouldn't you be disappointed? I doubt you can learn a language from a computer game, you can certainly improve it (like I did with English), but not if you don't understand anything. I'd say, let the people know it's the German demo, and let them decide.

Thanks, Alrik! I've been waiting for this one... but just get "file not found"... anywhere else you know of that I can try? (and if I can get and load it, will you help with the German translations if I get stuck? )

The correct link is http://ftp.take2.de/demos/SacredDemo.exeHowever, the file is huge and I would like to be sure it is in English before downloading it. On the Ascaron website they make noo mention of it in their news section.

@Cleglaw: This demo is in German, but according to the Ascaron forums, an English demo is supposed to be released "in the next few days". (This was posted Feb 13th by "top dog, from Ascaron")
Thanks, Flash and Cleglaw, for the link... it's coming through now!
Snippet from the Ascaron forum:
"My views on your german demo
Apart from [it] being [in] german i actually enjoyed it , it kinda reminds me of diablo + revenant + [color:"orange"]divine divinity. [/color]"

I'm playing the game right now in window mode. Pity that the interface is not so user friendly in my opinion.

This game is good! Since finishing DD I have tried several games and been disappointed in all of them for one reason or another. But this one is a keeper and I intend to buy it when it is available for sale. Of course this are my initial reactions and I reserve the right to change my mind if things take a turn for the worse.
The only things I don't like so far are 1--The minimap cannot be constantly displayed--though on the other hand this may be more realistic. 2--Weapons have so many stats on them that it is hard to make a decision on which is the best, but this will probably be clearer after I learn more.
Things I like include 1--Nice combo of action and dialogue--emphasis on action. 2--Strong similarities to D2 and DD which are my favorites. 3--Some nice touches. For instance when playing DD did it ever occur to you that the townsfolk behaved the same at all hours of the day and night? In Sacred they go indoors at night. 4--Even with settings for the lowest quality of video, the graphics look nice. 5--Even though I only meet the minimum and not the recommended requirements, the game runs smoothly and does not crash. 6--The game has a sense of humor. For instance there is one grave which is dedicated in memorium to all the monsters which have been killed to gain exp points.

I don't know which status the demo actually has, but I'm quite sure that there will be several things fixed in the later game, for example DSA-names of weapons (at least reported foor the german demo) removed.
If you don't know what I mean, try searching for my thread with the "Lost Kingdom Books" or "The Dark Eye" instead.

I have also played the demo. (downloaded it in 30 min ) and I must say that I go with cleglaw. Only the sound is a bit of a problem, it sometimes stucks and I hear not much background music. I'll think I am going to buy this game.

Sacred is Gold, posted in the official Sacred Forum, and originally announced by Take2.
The localized version comes later.

In Germany (yes, it's a German game ) it's Gold (this week), but localized versions are said to follow later on.
