Relax, Winterfox
Would you feel better if you knew that most people who sees women in Fantasy wearing a chainmail bikini (it should hurt!) are idiots who never touched (or saw) a female in their life?

Hohoho. I hope so; wouldn't want them to breed. Insert "Out of the Homo sapiens gene pool with you!" icon here.

Actuall in the Sacred demo that is not a disadvantage. While both are moving you auto target and hit the monster. At first I thought this was only true if you were galloping away with the monster following straight behind you, but it is also true if you circle around him and he is also moving. Your accuracy depends on your % chance to hit, and not whether you are both moving. It is devastatingly effective.

I don't know about the horse falling on you--hasn't happened in the demo.

I meant reality .
You mean the horse is invincible?

The horses can die, but I have not seen this happen in the demo.

Actually, as I recall (whether this is legend or actual truth I'm not sure) Celtish men would charge into battle naked with only 'woad' to protect their dignity! Sounds kinda cold to me.

Maybe you would feel better if there was a semi-naked man in the game too? D2's barbarian starts off with not much more than a loincloth.
I personally hope the seraphim isn't changed. Semi-naked female warriors are simply the fantasy genre. Like it or lump it. We want to see them.
Sadly enough, I think the seraphim on horseback will not be on the US cover for the game.

Still, keeps the feminists happy I guess....

Winterfox...
Well, as i female gamer - i can deal with this partial nudity of the females...it does not bother me. After all - women are nicer to look at artisitically them men anyway IMO. More curves and such.

Not all of them did, however. Especially those who lived in really, really cold regions. Then they wore fur.

The Amazon in D2 doesn't exactly start off with conservative head-to-toe coverall and I have no problem with her. However, she doesn't moan and pant like a bad porn star in a bikini. Oh -- and there are the Twi'leks in KoTOR who dress scantily, and the female avatars can have their clothes taken off to show underwear. But again, they don't have ridiculous curves, don't make aforementioned noises, and are not forced to remain in their skivvies for any period of time. (Except for the few seconds at the beginning of the game and after a torture sequence. Then it makes sense that they'd be unarmed and stripped of their armor.)

It's a question of taste and quality. The seraphim, even clothed, still looks awful. Bad art is bad art.

I have no problem with nudity per se when they have a point. (What, why do you think I can read Kushiel's Dart and watch explicit movies without flinching?)

The amazon doesn't moan like a porn star!? You've obvoiusly never used the 'impale' skill or summoned a valkyrie! It's worse than a women's tennis final with Monica Seles (sp?). Anyway, what's KoTOR?
Like your sig BTW winterfox.

I never thought the Zon was in poor taste. The Seraphim definitely looks tacky with armor on--something like a blond Tina Turner. Without her armor on if it were the real world she would constantly have to fend off men and would end up getting raped or slaughtering all the men on both sides of the conflict. Very unrealistic--more like an adolescent fantasy than a real fighter and if I had a young child I wouldn't like him or her to be watching Bikini Babe Porn Star Seraph in action.

This tread is really becoming interesting. I find that everyone has at least one good point. Could anybody post a screenshot of the Seraphim, or find a good screenshot on the game's page which shows the character at it's best/worst ?
I'd download the demo but 255 mb is too big for me (I could download during 2 nights but I doubt the game has anything I haven't seen before... Plus I have enough games for now).
Thanks in advance.

That's the point though isn't it? Its not real, not in any sense of the word. This is fantasy, a game and usually the characters are concieved within the mind of a male graphics artist i.e. the women will usually be 'overdone' (male sexual fantasy) and the men will end up hugely muscular. (powertrip fantasy, imaginig themselves in the role) The exception to this is usually the spellcasting genre. I usually play casters as I prefer to have a more 'interesting' game. I am never offended by the warrior characters though. They are just less interesting to me.

Death... the only pictures I have are on the sacred homepage. Here's a link if you don't have it allready.

Well, I pre-ordered my copy of the game. I'm getting the UK version with full gore and the cheeky picture of the horse-riding Seraphim on the cover. Sweeeet.

I'm waiting on the US version; apart from the cover and gore I think there might be more bugs/gameplay issues worked out when it is released. When will you get your copy? How much will it cost you? What character are you going to play 1st? You must give us a report after playing it.

Knights of the Old Republic, the one and only good Star Wars game of recent date. Bioware-made. Fabulous story, pretty eyecandy, excellent characters, and overall the best RPG I've played in years -- the best since BG2, in fact.

You forget one thing. This is not exacty the fantasy genre; it is, in many people's eyes, the bad fantasy genre. We aren't discussing literary work at the moment, true, but nowadays most readers do count realism in fantasy fiction as a plus, not a minus. From browsing forums, I notice that some gamers do, as well. Distinction of taste, I suppose.

By the way, here's a screenshot of the seraphim and the gladiator: http://www.geocities.com/moonstone_jp/sacred_chars.JPG (And for the love of all things holy and unholy alike, copy and paste the URL to address bar, not click on it.)

Two things :

- I've told one of the Sacred Team of this thread. He found it interesting - especially the discussion about therole / cliché of women in the Fantantasy Genre / RPG. He said that this discussion is really OLD (I think I'd say "ancient").

- He also posted me the link to the official English-language Sacred Forum :

http://www.ascaron-forum.com/ubbthreads.php

Well, that's it for now.

@Winterfox : KOTOR looks as great as it needs Resources.

May have to give KoTOR a try then. Sounds interesting. Lightsabre fights and everything?

Cleg: I should get my version delivered around March 23rd. I paid $55. ($10 for overnight fedex) I got it from gogamer.com and yes, I will give a report on the gameplay soon after. I want to try the Vampiress first. I love 'evil' characters. The woodelf may be next as she can do all her special bow skills from horseback. Sounds like a really cool fighting style.
Can't wait!

I guess since the topic of women in fantasy hes been 'done to death' so to speak I won't bother commenting further....

Hmmm.... The seraphim looks like a mix of transformers, hentai and "biker chicks".

I always wondered how the little bowls are held? With super-glue? Like here.

It's a strange game. The magician looks like a rogue

Well, the picture represents the ENGLISH box, which is different to the German one. Don't ask me why; I have no clue.

Also, I personally believe (although I have little evidence for my theory) that the chars might still somewhat resemble their "former chars" from the older Armalion game.

I was thinking, Womble, that you were going to get the game 1st, but the USA version comes out the23rd also IIRC. The German version is already out and I heard they are having many problems with the copy protection making it unplayable. So although we wanted it now we are probably better off as our version will no doubt be patched.

Well, here from the german discussion about sacred I heard of a Patch - brand new - but it seemingly is only for Multiplayer - as is the registration number.

However, some say that the copy protection goes on the nerves of some posters here. As far as I've understood it, it's a small window opening and closing every time the game ist started. That's how I've understood it, but I'm not sure whether I've understood it correctly at all !

That's often the case with games published in the U.S. or elsewhere first , then in Europe !
