Hi

I am having issues joining my friend via Direct Connect.
4 friends made a game together (1 on GOG and 3 on Steam - the host is the GOG guy). We made our characters and have had several sessions together, nearing the end of Fort Joy. Suddenly I am unable to Direct Connect to my friends game.
My other two friends are still able to join. I get the 'Error Connection Failed' with small text near the bottom that says there are no available slots.

Some trouble-shooting we have tried:
- Made sure there were no firewall blocking.
- Made sure we were not on a VPN (also tried on the VPN).
- Game versions are the same.
- Tried joining as the first player. Could still not connect, but friends are able to join at will.
- I tried making a new game, and same friend has an issue joining my game.

What could be the issue? It sucks to have to grind through the beginning again, we just got to all the good fights and nearing the end of Fort Joy.

Thanks.

Are you using any mods?

If the host creates a new lobby, can you join then? If so, can the latest save from your current playthrough be loaded?

If you or the host create a new profile and start a new game (without mods), can the other join?

Did either of the other Steam players try joining you via Direct Connection? If they get the same error, can they join using the Steam lobby or invites?

Try verifying local files: in the Steam library, right click on the game and select Properties, switch to the Local Files tab and then click on the 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache...' button.

If you can join when not using mods, but a new game with the same mods enabled gives the error, try comparing the mod files in the '..\Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition\Mods' folder with the ones in the host's folder (or one of the other players).
You can use a program like DVDSig or ExactFile to scan the folder, swap the files each program creates and verifying against the other's file, to identify any differences in the folders. DVDSig is tiny (alternate download), portable and doesn't require an install, while ExactFile has more features.
If you only have a couple of mods, it would probably be easier to use a program such as Hash to create a list of checksum values to compare manually (slightly more work comparing, but no file swapping required).

Try resetting your network adapters:
- click Start (or Search in Win 10), type cmd into the search box, right click Command Prompt and select run as administrator.
- type the following command and hit Enter
netsh winsock reset
- when that is done, there should be a message 'Winsock reset completed successfully'
- type exit and hit Enter, then reboot your computer.
For more details, see:
https://iihelp.iinet.net.au/Resetting_Network_Adapter_(Winsock_Reset)

Try starting two instances of the game on your system and see if you can join a local co-op game. If the problem is data related, this should work fine (though working wouldn't necessarily mean it is a data problem).
Start the game, switch to windowed mode and lower the game resolution (and maybe check the option to mute the sound volume when the game doesn't have focus), start a multiplayer game, hit Esc, open the Connectivity Menu, optionally disable online multiplayer (if it is enabled) and make sure LAN Connections is enabled (or that can be done in the options before starting a new game).
Next, start the game again from the 'EoCApp.exe' program file (doesn't matter if the first instance is started through Steam or the executable), select Join Online Game in the Campaign section, switch to the LAN tab, rather than Online, and try joining.

No mods used.

No, I cannot join his lobby, nor can he join mine. But we can both join another one from the friend group (Steam user).

No, same error appears.

- Did either of the other Steam players try joining you via Direct Connection? If they get the same error, can they join using the Steam lobby or invites?
Both other Steam users can join via Direct Connect to the host. I used to be able to do this as well.

- Try verifying local files: in the Steam library, right click on the game and select Properties, switch to the Local Files tab and then click on the 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache...' button.
Tried this already (forgot to mention, apologies), did not have an effect.

I can join other open lobbies, just as I can join the other two friends' games. Just not the original host - even though we have played several sessions together already.

I have not tried the other two options yet, but will get back to you on this thread shortly with our findings. Thanks so far smile

I did this, it had no effect.

I tried this, and I was able to join my own LAN game.

When you hosted a game, did either of the other Steam players try joining via Direct Connection? If they get the same error, can they join using the Steam lobby or invites?

Please email supportdos2@larian.com with a dxdiag report for your system and the host (WinKey-R, type in dxdiag and hit enter, then when it finishes loading click on the 'Save All Information...' button and save the report somewhere handy).
Also check the respective '..\Divinity Original Sin 2\DefEd\bin' folder for the gold.log and network.log files to include. Actually, if you don't mind a little more troubleshooting, rename your current network.log files, start the game and try joining the GOG player, quit, rename the network.log files, restart and try joining one of the Steam player via Direct Connection. Then include all 3 copies of the network.log file from your system, and the 2 from the host.

I was only trouble-shooting with the GOG player, I haven't tried having the Steam players join my game. I will try that next chance I get, which is probably Thursday evening CET.

Will do.

I will do that Thursday evening as well (we have a planned session then).

Thanks for your help so far smile

Having the same issue. 2 friends on GoG, I'm on steam.

Host is one of the GoG players. The other GoG player disconnects constantly, and sometimes I disconnect and can't rejoin the game via direct connect. It was fine last week. Seems like the new patch busted something.

There shouldn't be any changes in the PC version that would affect connectivity. The update on Steam was just to maintain save compatibility with the Switch update, and GOG and the App Store versions were updated for multiplayer compatibility with Steam.

Hi again

So today we had another session, and were prepared to do the trouble-shooting download of log files. But, my GoG friend told me that he had not verified his files yet, and did so right before our session today, and suddenly it worked again. I was able to join his game and he could join my game as well.

I won't send the log files, unless you guys would like to review them anyways? Let me know if you would like them.

Thanks for the help! We are back on track towards Driftwood!

I'm glad you got it working. If it keeps working (knock on wood), then there was likely a corrupt file somewhere, or the verification reset something, so there is no need for the log files.
