Womble, I have read your post in the Sacred forum--" It does, I wish there was an auto-target system such as in Divine Divinity where you can hold ctrl and attack the nearest enemy. " Don't forget you promised us a report.

Ok. I've played through about half of act 1 and will try to give impressions without spoilers.
I've only tried 2 chars so far in the full game, the vampiress and the battlemage. I learned the hard way that the battlemage is called the battlemage because he has to do a bit of fighting/tanking IMO. The skills 'stoneskin' and 'fire spiral' are very nice in combination for most melee monsters but you can specialise in what you like. Ice mage is my next plan I think. 'Ring of ice' is plain nasty, even with just one point in it. Kills and slows monsters. Lightning strike is awesome against crowds but sucks vs single targets. (It arcs back and forth between multiple tagets)
You will get enough runes to exchange at the combo-master for the skills you need. (Really neat touch BTW) Before you level up a skill and increase the recharge time socket runes into 'itamz' to 'pump' the skill that is desired. This will give increased skill lvl with no increase in recharge. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
Anyway, my preferred char at the moment is my second, the vampiress. All of her skills so far are very cool. With a 100 damage sword I can achieve over 200 normal damage in vampire mode! Over 400 with a hard hit! (and that's noooooblar <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />) I was really impressed with the 'vampire's kiss' skill which will cause monsters to slowly bleed to death. The graphics are very cool for this!
Ok, so overall I like this game a lot. It has made me laugh several times with the voice-acting. The mage will yell amusingly at you if you try to give him an item he can't use. The Vampiress' evil scream as she assumes vampire form is very cool. The respawning monsters are a pain but are very good for 'item farming', the discovery of the waypoints has saved me a lot of grief in this area though. There is a bit of a graphical slowdown in the town areas, especially with full zoom out. It was no biggie for me though. Also lower-area monsters will spawn at the same-ish level as you giving a minimum amount of xp as far as I've noticed. They become far easier to kill though. Its fun, but tedious at times, there are a few bugs with the quests. Mounting a horse in combat is not a good idea. It happened a few times with my vamp. She would hop on but the horse would run away leaving her 'mounting' mid-air! Funny, it should be patched at some point however.
Do I like it as much as my other new game Spellforce? Maybe, I have to try out all the characters and finish bronze difficuly fist to get a good idea of what its really about. I'll be playing it a lot for sure. (Took a holiday from work yesterday and did a 12-hour stretch so it definately holds my attention!) I will also be making a battlemage that works properly too!
What's your handle on the Ascaron forums Cleg? Just curious.
You others should import the english version. The gore is very fitting to the game. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the first English Review here ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />
And yes, riding horses into battle can be lethal for them ... many have reported that horses are too weakly protected from attackers.
I think you should rather use them for travelling or / and with weaker enemies. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the report Womble. I am Alram on the Sacred and Diablo forums. I haven't been posting much on the Sacred forum since my analysis of ranged combat on horseback; when I have played the game you'll see more of me there. Boy was I disappointed when the stores told me today that they hadn't received Sacred; yesterday, they had told me it would be in today.

@Womble Thanks for the review and please keep them coming. Its fun, but tedious at times, there are a few bugs with the quests. Mounting a horse in combat is not a good idea. It happened a few times with my vamp. She would hop on but the horse would run away leaving her 'mounting' mid-air! This must have been just hilarious.

Allrighty. Tried the woodelf last night. Powerhouse with a bow, took her to lvl 11 ish. Firstly, exploding arrow is funny, funnier than a barrel of monkeys. Want to see limbs flying everywhere? This is the skill! Many arguments have been posted as to whether this character is overpowered. I must say that she gets some of the coolest combat skills I've seen yet. She has VERY high dex and therefore outstanding defence making her a complete tank! I got through to lvl 11 the fastest yet with this character. I attribute it taking 3 hours to my desire to do every single side-quest. I also discovered the constitution skill, which increases HP dramatically. I think she may be overpowered due to exploding arrows MASSIVE damage increase per lvl and the fact enemy's can't seem to block arrows much. Maybe this has something to do with her high dex/large attack rating. I'll have to investigate further.
Next up: Darkelf! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

That sounds like a price tag I could pay. Maybe while I am out tomorrow I'll swing by and see if I can get it.

There is a German Update 1.5 out there now. I think that English versions shouldn't be mixed with German Patches, so I don't post German Patches here anymore. Magol en Agar - Sword with name in Sindarin. Thread is in German, picture is included (downloadable). Summary or Abstract : The Originator of the topic says that he or she has posted in a thread, where names for future items should be collected, some names that were in Sindarin. Now the first one of them was seen by the him or her.

Miscellaneous comments.
I played a couple of hours yesterday, and all day today. Hack and slash. If you like that this is the game for you. After the 1st area, there are monsters every 40 feet in some places. And they respawn--not immediately, but you can never truly clear an area. The game is harder than the demo. I dabbled with all chars. except for the Vamp. Most of today on a trapper Dark elf--very powerful. Fog the enemy, then poison mist and chop them up. Took him up to lvl 12. Starting up a Wood elf now.
Skill and "combat arts" setup is quite different from D2 or DD which makes it interesting..
The map is vast. All those monsters can make exploration a drag though unless you have a special ability on your gear that automatically kills monsters at lower lvl than you. There are numerous quests of the go fetch variety. The map helps you find your way, pointing out where the quests are.
SP party play is possible. You have no control of party members and so have to adapt your play to them. Eg. some are wimps and don't fight so you have to keep them from harm. Some are highly aggressive; The elves start out with companions who don't die--eventually you have to part ways though.
I haven't played MP yet other than to take a short quick peek.
The game runs smoothly on my laptop--ati mobile 9000, 1994 MHz, 512 RAM. A couple of very minor bugs so far--nothing that really hurts gameplay.
