Oof, that felt more hard-hitting than anything else I've read so far since D4 looks like a wastewater remaining after mixing D2 and D3 (Baalspawn? ).

Mind flayers are some of the most fascinating D&D villains - as I said, a Ulitharid - perhaps ulitharid alhoon, or Elder Brain, could work as a villain to rival sarevok.

Baal is/was one of the great evils in Diablo universe, so that was intentional ("Baalspawn" being a disfigured Diablo 4 game from a failed mixing of D2 and D3).

I loved original Baldur's Gate antagonists, so I hope that it will not just be "mind flayers", but that we may get THE mind flayer who's as interesting as previous villains.

IMO Bhaalspawn doesn't have to be the main part of the game - this story is concluded and I would prefer it not touched. Could be referenced in many ways, though.
